Resign Now, Pastor Bakare Tells Yar’Adua

September 08, 2008 16:31, 3,074 views

By Ayorinde Oluokun/Abuja & Eromosele Ebhomele

Barely 72 hours after the arrival of President Umaru Yar’Adua from Saudi Arabia, where he had gone for surgery, Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, has asked the president to resign and return home to Katsina State.

Bakare, who is generally regarded as an intrepid and straightforward preacher, said he could no longer keep silent, like all the other men of God in the country, in the face of chaos that is threatening to engulf the nation.

Pastor Bakare, who was preaching, yesterday, on the topic ‘The Downward Spiral of a Culture That Excludes God’ thundered: “I want you to live, but go home. We did not vote for your wife. Katsina is waiting to receive you. Umaru go home! Presidency is not a birthright neither is it hereditary.”
pmncover-8-sepy-2008.jpg

He added that because of the sensitive nature of the prevailing situation, in the event that the president leaves office, the Vice-President, Goodluck Jonathan, should be constitutionally sworn in to take over from Yar’Adua.

“But after he is sworn in, the Supreme Court could quash the election and the Senate President could rule for three months and another election could be conducted. Then there would be a president who would ensure steady progress.”

He declared that this was the ultimate solution to the problem the President’s illness has caused the whole nation.

The outspoken man of God, however, said it was not all about the illness. According to him, President Yar’Adua does not know what it takes to be a president, while he also stressed that there had been presidents who were able to rule their countries in the past even on wheelchair.

“How can we remain at a standstill? If the president has done anything at all since he came to power, he has put the country in reverse gear. Must we continue to fold our hands and sing ‘everything is gonna be alright’? The country is in chaos. We are about to hit a tornado.

“I am not a prophet of doom. The nation is at a standstill and no good nation would be on a standstill because one person is sick.”

He added that he’s one of those who prays ceaselessly for Yar’Adua to succeed, but not in the manner things are going now. “If anyone desired him to rule, I did. For the first time since I came of age, I called someone (Yar’Adua) my President because of his pedigree.

“I will support whoever God wants to be there and when God says it is over, I will be the first to blow the whistle,” Pastor Bakare said.

According to him, the failure of effective leadership in the country is the direct result of the failure of clergymen to speak the truth to those in power in the country. Rather than tell those in authority the truth, he said, men of God now have a way of deviating and preaching prosperity to their already impoverished congregation. “What are we now doing, including the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria? We are all saying let us pray for the President. When he was not sick what did he do? When you exclude God from the scheme of things and you privatise power, that is what happens,” he said, stressing that “the prevailing situation is like that of a messed up man with a messed up family coming to a messed up pastor of a church or churches in a messed up society producing a messed up nation.”

Bakare concluded by singing a song along with the congregation that Nigeria would flourish again as God is sending the “real president to liberate the country in no distant time.”

Meanwhile, After much speculations about his state of health, President Yar’Adua, this morning, resumed in his office at Aso Rock, Abuja. Among those who visited the president, this morning, were some governors and relatives. They include Governors Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Alhaji Abubakar Idris of Kogi State. P.M.News also gathered that Yar’Adua will, this afternoon, decorate new service chiefs in his office.

Whao! Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo is sincerely not fit to be a Commissioner of police in Lagos state. His Past should be probed because who know how may students of his group in Pyrates Confraternity he has been releasing from police cells after creating havoc in our universities and also, who knows how many he would have killed by himself while in the university. My question to him is; was he the hit man in his days as Pyrates Confraternity in the college?
I am sure he was, because the spirits of those he damaged their life is now tormenting him on daily basis. The holy books say sinners will not go unpunished; it is now the time for him to get a share of his own punishments.
From this confession, we can all see the reason why eradication of cultism in our universities is almost impossible in our present generation. People like him have been the Godfather of cults in our society. Square peg inside the round hole, please resign now and face your music.

It is a pity that the progress of this country is being toiled with by the so called leaders in this country. aTo me, I think it is time for a change in batton to nhands that is cemented with vigour and perfect picture of where this country is going. Mr President should not succumb to political pressures at the detriment of his dismayful health but should realise that if he drops dead, God forbid, Nigeria and nigerians “including those wishing him bad” by saying he should continue in office with his poor health, will surely continue woth their own lives. Nevertheless, at this time that we should be more concerned with tackling our long range economic woes, it is the state of Yar’Adua’s health that is the Gist in town.
My candid advice is simply for Yar’Adua to remember that the post of a president is no man’s birthright and should place more importrant to his life and not POWER.

with no disrespect, please Bakare,it easy for you guys to call people and say you are doing the fake healing,if all the pastors in this country are that powerful so where is the healing prayers?Mr Bakare, in all you have been saying, nothing has ever come to past,so please use your power and church members to pray for him and the nation, you have used all kind of words against uncle Segun Obasanjo untill he left Aso Rock, now is Gentle Yar Adua’s turn abi?
please Ask for the meaning of his surname,YAR ADUA
you guys can organize prayers for OBOMA that can never make Nigeria a better place for us all,but you cant do that for your own president,NA WA FOR UNA,and una go say una be man if GOD

Who he hell does Bakare think he is? What has he ever said that has ever come to pass? He said OBJ will die if he went for the 2nd term, but he is still alive and kicking even after the said term, he has done so many false predictions that never went past the doors of his church; I think it is high time he began minding the business of his church and leave politics and political comment for politicians. How many time has he seen Adeboye make such falacy of a comment or the head of Anglican or Catholic church or even the Muslim clerics? He should just mind the words that comes out of his mouth so that he is not charged for running his mouth too much on the day of ressurrection.

Firstly, I’ve been & I’m still very much in dupport of Pastos Bakere in totality. Nigeria doesn’t have a ‘President’ at the moment…NOT THE NAIJA THAT I COME FROM….people dey na…we solid!!!! We need to do something & people shpuld speak up…..reasonable NIGERIANS should advise Ya’Adua to bow out…..he lacks everything a Nigerian President should possess!

Secondly, God & Akpoyibo will sort that out…no one should condem or praise him…….we have many of them like that & some don’t have the guts to ‘repent’ openly!!!!

God & man no dey the same level……….God bless Naija!!

I support Ahmed Shaba, some of us christians just make negative comments all the time. God is the owner of mercy, and He can chose whosoever He wants to show mercy, wether you are a christian or not.So lets join forces together in prayer so that God’s will will be done.

ahmmed shaba , a point of correction, Since I have known Tunde Bakare, he has never performed any miracle. Infact he has been criticising those in the art of miracle like Joshua and Chris. He has been the only vocal pastor we have even in the wated 8 years of OBJ. To you my sake Tunde Bakare, in as much as I agree with u that men of God both in the christiandom and Muslim have not been fair to the masses of our people since 1960. they have not been telling the rulers the truth except u. I have written several times in the Punch online comments to challenge Migerian clergymen where God , in the Bible or Quran had sent Hid Angels or Prophets to go and pray for the RULERS that were misruling their people. However , my dear pastor, I totally disagree with u that God gave us Umoru. My belief in God is that whatever He has hands in/on, that thing must prosper. God has never had hands in the rulers that have ruled Nigeria since 1960, thats why they have all failed in succession. People like me have been tempted to urge Nigerians to have a trial of Devil-sent RULERS like Rawlings of Ghana or Oga Osama of Afganistan to help us knock some senses on the God-sent Govs like Ibori, Nnamani, Unlucky Igbinedion, Peteru Ibori,Dafidi Dariye, Peteru Fayose, Agagu , Imoke Kalu et al. Because these so called God-sent satan reincarnates have failed the Nigerian masses. Nigeria’s woe stoday are caused by Obasanjo of Owu. He never wished Nigeria well. he did it in 1979 and now he has done it again in 2007. Because he has been paying Nigeria back with bad coins, despite the fact that Nig has done him good, thats why bad things never cease to exist in his household. It is the word of God.

I personally think it’s better for Mr president to step aside and attend to his state of health with all seriousness. His life is precious to him and his family than the office he’s presently.
    He’s already an achiever.
He has done us no evil . Am trusring God that he will bounce back in sound health. God will preserve and heal him of any ailment that may be troubling him. Amen. Yar Adua will NOT die now. It’s not his turn. We’ve a long list of former rulers who has done nigeria no good but satanic evil. Iku(death) le mu one of them instead of this responsible gentle man.

EVERY ONE THAT HAS COMMENTED AGAINST WHAT THE PASTOR HAS SAID, IS FIRST OF ALL A FOOL AND THEN MAD. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME A PASTOR WILL BE REALISTIC TO ISSUES ARISING IN THE POLITY AND YOU FOOLS ARE TRYING TO HANG THE MAN FOR BEEN REALISTIC AND SINCERE. YOU ARE THE BANE OF THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY BECAUSE YOU FOOLS MAKE UP THE POPULATION,THATS WHY NIGERIA AS A NATION WILL NEVER MOVE FORWARD. FORGET RELIGION TACKLE PROBLEM AS YOU SEE THEM LEAVE GOD OUT OF IT AND DO YOUR OWN BEST AND SEE IF THERE WOULD BE NO SOLUTION. IN PUBLIC DISCUSSION IHAVE SAID IT AND WOULD SAY IT AGAIN YARADUA WOULD HAVE TO DIE SINCE HE DOSENT WANT TO RESIGN LIKE A HONOURABLE MAN. HOW WILL YOU HAVE A TERMINAL ILLNESS AND YOU STILL WANT TO RULE A COUNTRY LIKE NIGERIAN, IF THATS NOT PURE MADNESS I WONDER WHAT IT IS. IF HE DOESNT RESIGN IN TIME I PRAY HE DIES COS THIS SLOW-MOTION MOVES HE TAKING COS OF HIS ILLNESS IS ALREADY KILLING HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE , SO IF HIS INCLUDED IN THE DEATH TOLL BECAUSE OF HIS UNPARIOTIC NATURE AND INABILITY TO THINK INTELLIGENTL HIS DEATH IS HIGHLY WELCOMED AND A BETTER SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. WE NEED STRAIGHT TALKING PEOPLE AND STRAIGTH ACTING PEOPLE, THE PASTOR IN RIGHT ON THIS OCCASION,TO CALL THE MAN TO RESIGN……… NIGERIANS USE YOUR HEAD LEAVE FAITH,RELIGION AND WATEVER OUT OF YOUR PROBLEMS. OUR PROBLMS ARE NOT SPIRITUAL ITS VERY VERY VERY PHYSICAL. WE NEED DRASTIC MEASURES TO SOLVE OUR MANY PROMBLEMS, THE WORLD IS LEAVING US BEHIND WE HAVE A LOT OF CATCHING UP TO DO. I find it very difficult to believe Oga Bakare. He is being very political with Christianity. He is exposing his congregation too much. Imagine, people have started to question about all his prophecies. He should avoid pride in speaking the word of God. God is the only Judge that is perfect. He should hear from God properly before speaking. Yar’adua is still my President and if given the support, he will surprise the Nigerians with tremendeous visible achievements. President President Obasanjo, spent 4 years traveling the world looking for investors and he only ruled the Nation for only 4 years, hence the need for 3rd Term. Yar’adua is only a year + in office, let us give him all the support as Christians. Let us leave God to judge. I believe that if the President can accept Christ now, he would be healed with new kidney (No transplant at all). Let us see what God wants to do.

So, keep quite and preach the gospel!!! During the days of Jesus Christ, He healed and did not condem so, Y condeming Yaradua??? Y can’t u emulate Christ to heal????
I think we know u to be a cleargyman and not an economics or pol. scientist. Respect your church and congregation and STOP embaracing true Christians.

when a servant of God speaks,it is important that we decipher,if he is speaking the word of God or his own opinion.
i have known rev bakare for several years, and he has a passion for justice, equity and good gorvernance in nigeria.
and i feel it is to the credit of nigeria that the almighty God has given us an apostle of change,in this terrible times.
the tenure of yaradua began with a prophetic declaration that nigerias messiah has come.that was the voice of God.
it is important to note that it was specific.however the call forthe resignation of the president is a passionate appeal
from a loving and patroitic citizen to the president.who ever it is is immaterial.many had called for the resignation of the president before even rev. bakare did.
it takes boldness, courage and the spirit of God to speak such words, when others would be hididng their faces.
i salute you once again, barr babatunde bakare,an apostle of change in a corrupt and perverse nation.

The guy is trying to get attention again and he will not get one. When Yar’adua was appointed, Tunde jumped to the pulpit and claimed Yar’adua is Nigeria’s messiah. Now Yar’adua is not fit again. Is God now weak or has He made a mistake? God will always be true but Tunde Bakare will always be a liar. I am surprised that some people are still sitting in the politics arena called Church. I wanted what people go to church to hear. Politics or God’s word. Hungry preachers like Tunde are disgrace to both Nigeria and the black race. They dance with politicians and help their congregation to embezzle Nigerian money for their churches. Maybe Tunde’s members are not coming to church with returns as before. Shame on you, Tunde. Your judgement will be worse because you are always running when God has not sent you.

Yar’adua, I pray that you will recover. For Obasanjo that ruled Nigeria twice and decided to give the country a sick president, your place in hell will be hotter than that of Satan. May God have mercy on Nigeria.

Oh, that he (President Yar’Adua) will hear the divine counsel of God and resign honourable before God compulsorily makes him not only to resign but to rest.
After watching the American elections, tears filled my eyes not because Obama won but because of my own father-land (Nigeria) where there is deliberate frustration of righteousness and celebration of wickedness in high places.
We need a serious revolution of righteousness and healing of our sicknesses starting from God’s house to the society.
It starts from me and you - let us live right. My Pastor (Sarah Omakwu) has done great justice to the matter of righteous ruling in her current series (the 21st Century Christian).
However, you need health to rule, that is why Mr. President must heed the call by the man of God to resign.

God is a faithfull God! He uses his prophets to bring warnings. let Yaradua do what is right. the most impoortant thing is to see Nigeria move in the plan of God for her.

lets join our faith together as we believe God for revival and transformation in our Land.

I love Nigeria, what about you?
