The woes of the former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, are being compounded by the day, following his demotion from Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), along with 139 police officers.
His latest albatross is that he is being wanted by security operatives over what was described as treason. Sources told P.M.News this morning, that Ribadu is allegedly in possession of classified documents that he wants to use against the Federal Government.
It was also gathered that information available to the security agencies indicates that Ribadu is trying to influence Supreme Court judges to rule against President Umaru Yar’Adua over his victory in the April 2007 presidential election, which was challenged by Atiku Abubakar of the Action Congress and ANPP’s candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).
Although the Elections Petitions Tribunal upheld Yar’Adua’s victory, the other candidates challenged the ruling at the Supreme Court, and Ribadu is allegedly trying to influence the judges to rule against Yar’Adua.
Sources said Ribadu, who returned last weekend from Sierra Leone with his course mates at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, where he is undergoing a nine-month capacity building course, was sighted yesterday at NIPSS, but was said to have escaped this morning, when operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) went there to arrest him.
He was said to have got wind of the impending arrest and escaped hours before the security operatives swooped on him. Last week SSS operatives also tried to pick him up but he also escaped.
Already, the Federal Government is reported to have given the new EFCC boss, Farida Waziri, the nod to probe the petitions against Ribadu. The petitions border on how he spent the foreign grants he received during his tenure as EFCC boss.
Also, the dust raised by his demotion from AIG to DCP is yet to settle as there are indications that he may be thrown out of NIPSS. The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, is said to be in a dilemma over what to do with Ribadu now that he has been demoted. This is because a police officer of the rank of DCP cannot attend the NIPSS.
According to sources, Okiro said the Police Service Commission did not consider the wider implications of the demotions before making the announcement.
The Police Service Commission had ordered Ribadu, who was given accelerated promotion to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, under former president Olusegun Obasanjo, to revert to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP with effect from 1 October, 2005. Okiro is said to be consulting with people on what to do with Ribadu.
P.M.News, however, gathered that following his demotion, Ribadu is no longer qualified to attend the course as it is meant for those in the rank of Commissioner and above in the police force. Ribadu was sent on the course in controversial circumstances last February.
It was gathered that the management of NIPPS are now in a dilemma on how to handle the Ribadu situation as such a situation has not been witnessed at the institution before.
This was confirmed by Maryam Amedu, Public Relations Officer, NIPPS. It was gathered that enemies of Ribadu, especially some former governors currently under prosecution for corruption, and who are bent on disgracing the former EFCC boss, may pile pressure on the management of NIPPS to expel Ribadu.
Meanwhile, nobody knows the whereabouts of Ribadu as our attempts to contact him on the recent developments hit a brickwall.
This is sad

7 August 2008 16:27be good to people you meet on your way up,who knows you might need their help on your way down,Ribadu might have done good job,but he was also working for obasanjo and if he claim to be honest man,he should have know that his promotions was fraudulent,
but the fact is what goes around comes around

7 August 2008 16:32The government has done more than enough harm and embarrassment to Ribadu. They should just let him be and not roped him into an unfounded treason. They should leave Ribadu alone except they want Nigrians to revolt.

7 August 2008 16:48Ribadu, You see why we have adviced you from onset, make you no follow Obasanjo, You though were doing well and very principle, but when we asked you to also arrest Obasanjo for corruption, and even Olabode George, you told us that you have nothing against them. Now see what the people you are working for is now alleging against you.
I wish you well sha

7 August 2008 16:52I dont think it is right to make any noise over Ribadu’s case. In the forst place, he is NOT fit to be an AIG and therefore whatever force that promoted him is as evil and distainful as the crime he claimed to have fought in EFCC.
He is worse than Obasanjo whom he defended so fiercely and relentlessly. He ignored Mrs Iyabo Akinlawon to focus on Prince Tejuosho; he ignored Gbenga Daniel to focus on Ladoja. He is as corrupt as the same people he sought to jail.
I think he should be relieved of his studentship in NIPSS as it is improper for an DCP to be there.
All of them: Obj, Iyabo Obasanjo Bello, Iwu, Bode George and Atiku are all robbers. But give it to Atiku that no court of law has found him guilty. He is indeed a crafty man, a lot more sensible than the remainining drross.

7 August 2008 17:07it is pathetic that nigerians are now being ruled by some frivolous elements who ought to be cooling their feet in the prisons as at now. to be candid, what has this young man ‘nuhu ribadu’ done to warrant treason charges? i knew it earlier that this president’s of ours hasn’t got a mind of his own, he’s been blown here and there by the cabals, infact it’s an understatement to state that yar’adua is not the one ruling this nation, it is glaring to all and sundry. nevertheless, i know for sure that the wrath of God is coming upon them all in no distant time from now. we know all their antics and why them remove ribadu from the anti-corruption crsade. you will not escape the judgement of God, it’s at your doorstep.

7 August 2008 17:08It is unbeliveable that when other countries are moving forward, Nigeria is moving backwards. With this development, it is now confirmed that this goverment has been captured by Ibori, Saraki and the other looters. AS i read this story i weep for my beloved country, because i know we cannot develop with this kind of people holding the country to ransome. Something needs to be done to stem this downward drift. My advise to Ribadu is that he should learn from MKO Abiola’s experience, he should runaway before they eliminate him because he is very toxic for these rogues, he knows too much and they are very desperate. This is a shame.

7 August 2008 17:20SHAME ON THIS COUNTRY,SHAME ON YARDUA,SHAME ON IBORI AND HIS EX-COLLEAGES AS FORMER GOVERNORS,SHAME ON OKIRO D IGP THIS IS A CLEAR CASE OF VICTIMISATION.THERE SHOULD BE NO EFCC,ICPC OR THERE LIKES B/COS YARDUA IS NOT SINCERE ABOUT FITING CORRUPTION IN THIS COUNTRY. RIBADU TOUCHED THOSE WHO THINK THEY ARE UNTOUCHABLE AND THAT IS WHY HE IS FACING ALL THIS PROBLEM. MY DEAR RIBADU GOD WILL VINDICATE YOU,YOU ARE MY MAN ANYDAY ANYTIME. I WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR YOU TILL YOUR ENEMIES GOT TIED.YARDUA IS DISAPPOINTING NIGERIA BY ALLOWING ALL THESE IRREGULARITIES TO HAPPEN.

7 August 2008 17:36Nigeria is a disgrace, what the Cuban’s could not tolerate in the 1940s and 50s, which subsequently lead to the violent revolution that sacked the puppet regime of Fulgencio Batista, is a child`s play here today in Nigeria of the 21st century. My dream for the country is a violent change sooner or latter, as there is no alternative with the way things are going.

7 August 2008 17:37How can Ribadu influence Supreme Court Judges, please stop playing on our intelligence. Any house built on false foundation cannot last. Yar adua should think for a moment and look at the history of Nigeria; Nigerians are smart, intetilligent people and cannot be taken for a ride. It’s either there is a fifth columnist in the government or Yar ardua is acting the script of a group.
The earlier our so called rulers realise that power is transient and that they will be called to account for their stewardship the better.

7 August 2008 17:40UNFORTUNATELY ROGUES HAVE TAKEN OVER NIGERIA. HOW COME NO ONE, NOT A SINGLE PERSON IS OPPOSING A CABAL OF DRUG BARONS, HITMEN, ASSASSINS, TREASURY LOOTERS, 419NERS ETC. HOW COME. WITH THIS KIND OF NONSENSE HAPPENING TO RIBADU WHO DO YOU WANT TO STICK OUT HIS NECK FOR NIGERIA AGAIN? WELL, THERE IS EVEN NO HOPE FOR NIGERIA. BY 2013 THE NAME NIGERIA WILL CEASE TO EXIST. THAT IS THE YEAR EVERYTHING WILL END AS NIGERIA. IBB, ADENUGA, IBORI ET AL HAVE ALL COME TOGETHER TO FIGHT A COMMON ENEMY. DEEP INSIDE THEM THEY KNOW THAT THIS MAN IS FORTHRIGHT BUT HE HAS TO BE STOPPED BY ALL MEANS. NOW THEY WANT TO ARREST HIM SO THAT THEY CAN POISON HIM BECAUSE LIKE THEY KEEP BOASTING DEAD MEN DO NOT TALK. WHOEVER KNOWS RIBADU SHOULD TELL HIM TO RUN OUT OF THE COUNTRY. HE HAS BEEN MARKED FOR DEATH. HIS ENEMIES HAVE A PROGRAM THEY ARE FOLLOWING STEP BY STEP. THE NEXT STEP IS ARREST AND THE NEXT THING WILL BE DEATH AND THAT WILL BE THE END OF RIBADU. THEY KNOW NOTHING WILL HAPPEN BECAUSE NIGERIANS ARE A BUNCH OF NOISE MAKERS. WHAT HAPPENED WHEN M.K.O. ABIOLA WAS ELIMINATED? RIBADU, SHOULD REMEMBER THE SAYINGS OF LATE BOB MARLEY THAT HE WHO FIGHTS AND RUN AWAY LIVES TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY. SEE THESE CRIMINALS. THEY HAVE NOW GONE TO ARREST BODE GEORGE AROUND THIS TIME, KNOWING VERY WELL THAT THE MAN IS NOT LIKED BY NIGERIANS AND TO REMEMBER THEM THAT RIBADU WAS THE ONE PROTECTING HIM. THE SAME TACTICS AL-MUSTAPHA AND CO USED DURING THE STRIKE FORCE ERA. IBORI HAS NOW DUG UP THE SAME TACTICS TO USE AGAINST EVERY GOOD MAN THAT WANTS TO BRING HIM TO BOOK. EVIL THRIVES WHERE WISE MEN REFUSE TO TALK

7 August 2008 17:44What the heck has this young man done to warrant all these retribution and victimization. If truly God said light would overcome evil, then it is certain that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu would triumph over all his adversaries. God that has protected him this far would not only continue to guard and guide him but would also hasten the imminent downfall of all Ribadu’s enemies and their supporters. It is disheartening that you would be given a national assignment towards the development of the country and you would discharge those duties conscietiously, only to be rewarded with multiple humiliation. Nuhu, you are not in this alone and God would assist you to triumph over the evil doers.

7 August 2008 18:21The issue is hardworkna honesty is never rewarded in Nigeria, Ribadu might not be perfect but he has done a good job. YARDUA is just ridiculing himself not Ribadu and soon the truth will prevail. How can people like Ibori and the so called AGF be holding Nigerians into ransom? It is a shame on Yardua and he has shown the world he is toothless president and even corrupt.

7 August 2008 18:32Why all this noise about ribadu’s demotion. We all need to ask if it is fair to promote ribadu above his contemporary.Just because he was obj’s boy he was promoted to become aig when his colleagues are still deputy commisioner of police.Yes he did a good job,but he served his evil master so well that he got a fraudulent promotion.
Harlee B
7 August 2008 18:47Ribadu got double promotion, and so what? where was the police service commission when this was done? Dont we get double promotion when we do well while in school?. Apart from that, what of Haz nwedi? that’s another loyal police officer till his death. Are they goig to exhume his body & rebury him with the new rank? Why was Okiro, the present IG not affected. he himself was promoted from Commissioner of Police (CP) to Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) without ever being an Assistant Inspector-General (AIG). His confirmation as IG even bypassed Ogbonnaya Onovo who was senior to him. The fact is that others affected in this saga are just for the eyes, Ribadu is the real target. True Ribadu was used by Obj but all the people he tried are corrupted. the same way farida will be prosecuted later as she is being used by Okiro, Ibori, Andoaka & Saraki. Unfortunately we are ruled by a man that was being directed by these scrupulous Scoundrels. God will judge all of them, Insha Allah

7 August 2008 18:48Fellow Nigerians,
On behalf of patroitic men and women of the armed forces of Nigeria, I, Major Salisu Ibrahim wish to announce to you that the irresponsible, corrupt, disgraceful and inept govt of Yar’ardua installed by the fat fool, womaniser, and most corrupt leader on any govt on earth Matthew Otitiolu Obasanjo has been overthrown. All airports, borders and seaports have been closed with immediate effect. This is a govt of national salvation and we are here to sanitize and install a democratically elected govt in 6 months time. We ask the international community to leave us alone as we try to salve the image of this nation that has been destroyed by politicians and the big fools that are top members of the armed forces of Nigeria. Ours is a govt that will bring the Rawlings style of routing out all corrupt leaders and their families who have rendered the economy of this nation hopeless. Wake up Nigerian junior officers before we slide into anarchy. Nigeria is gone and you ca not allow your stupid generals who are all stupenduosly rich to destroy our beloveth Nigeria. Nigeria is in a mess and those of us abroad are feeling ashamed to be called Nigerians again. Please save us! Mauritania did it recently and why not Nigeria? The international community will be happy to see new faces in govt and all srtata of govt and not the likes of David Mark, Yar’adua, Bankole. IBB, OBJ, Abdusalam Abubakar, Pius Anyim, Odili and wife, Okey Nzenwa, Ajudua, Chris Anele, Orji Kalu, Alameseigha, Iwuanyanwu, Aliero, Ohakim, Alao Akala, Maitatsine former governor of Zamfara State, Boni Haruna, Ibori, Sarakis, Okiro etc. all deserve to face the firing squad for derailing Nigeria. Let’s not cry for Ribadu because he followed OBJ sheepishly. Very very soon, we shall triumph over darkness.

7 August 2008 20:33Shame on everyone in NIGERIA! A great country with land to die for now been populated with bunch of cowards and ruled by theifs. The politicians are the thiefs and the us the populace are cowards. If this kind of affront was tried in any land where people still have principle and dignity, this criminal goverment will fall through direct action. But we seat afar and watch the thiefs steal all they could and destroy everything that is good about this country. Ribadu was respected for his effort at EFCC, and international community are strarting to think that maybe there are few good men left in Nigeria and now see what is happening and no one tried to do anything about it. The politician derive the power from people through vote but we seem to view them as if they are untochable when infact they are.
We will soon start to set trap for them to go to jail outside this contry, since they are not capable of following rules anyway or explain the source of there wealth.

7 August 2008 20:37Weep not for RIBADU. We warned him from the onset to be humb le in his disposition. The fact remains that RIBADU was very very arrogant when he was EFCC chairman. He lived larger than life!. He was too boastful, He will be on TV making noise, hollering, hitting table that he will put corrupt people to jail!. He chased innocent people and went after anti-objs. Ribadu was purely a dog of OBJ. he goes where his master obj directs him. of course, if OBJ (his master) is gone, he is also a gonna!
Atiku was the one that nominated ribadu, we all knew what he did to Atiku. Ribadu hand-cuffed Tafa Balogun!, Ribadu never respected the Police force (his immediate constituency) while at EFCC.
He messed okiro and other seniors, now okiro is IG, You see, the learning point in Ribadu’s case is that , Do not forget your roots, no matter how good or bad in life, your root is your root.
Ribadu forgotten his root, and he was reminded by his removal from EFCC, and demotion.

7 August 2008 20:56When Ribadu mounted the EFCC saddle, I said that God has visited Nigeria at last.
I was mistaken because Ribadu allowed himself to be used by OBJ and his agents.
Ribadu should be arrested, kept away from civilization and possibly allowed to die in prison.
He saw the truth and turned it upside down.
Finally, I support the immediate arrest of the diminutive El Rufai, Any Uba and his stupid brother, Chris.
Ahmadu Ali and Ojo Maduekwe should follow suit.

7 August 2008 22:27I think Ribadu is getting his own fill now.I remember telling Nigerian if anybody have any evidence against Obasanjo, they should come up with evidence, the Obasanjo he is covering up them should come out and defend him.Ribadu, you ae on your own because i believe you have and still have concrete evidence against Obasanjo on his dirty deals but you decide to cover him up.Who will cover you up now?

7 August 2008 22:30In a decent society, a character like Ribadu should be in prison by now for worshiping a person against the greater interest of his fatherland, all resources wasted on elections in april are obviously going down the drain, because overzealous officers like ribadu was busy proclaiming perceived enemies of obasanjo as corrupt, thus disqualifying them while leaving rouges like bode george to gallivant about. What goes round comes round, did his promotion follow the due process? some of these human rights lawyers are consultants of ribadu’s efcc and need to protect their benefactor

7 August 2008 22:35Ribadu is being punished for not protecting the interest of the North, this is a conclusion that indeed, the Northerners are parasites, who could not contribute positively to the entity- Nigeria, other than to cheat, and cause confusion! We southerners are ready for you, the illegal demotion of 40 southerner officers and Ribadu shows how empty brain Yah‘Adua administration is. There is noting to show for almost two years in office, just negative tabloids –what a shame ! IF THINGS CONTINUE LIKE THIS THE ENTITY CALLED NIGERIA WILL CEASE TO EXIST, SOUTH WEST WILL SURVIVE, EAST WILL SURVIVE, IT IS ONLY THE FOOLISH NORTHERNERS WHO THINK NIGERIA BELONG TO THEM THAT WILL CRY… THEY EVEN ASCRIBE “BURN TO RULE” ON THIER PLATE NUMBERS..VERY FOOLISH SET OF IGNORANT PARASITES.

7 August 2008 22:40Hey Men!—- Why all these brouhaha about Ribadu?? Ribadu was one of the Architect of
Third Term Agenda {TTA}… If he has certain documents on 2007 Election to
use against Yar’ Adua.. That is even an evidence that he is a Hypocrite… If he
really loves this country, he should have release those Documents when the
going was good for him, why waitting untill he is being investigated?…
Ribadu is worst that any of corrupt people he put on trial.. Wait and see
when his tenure is probed.. The forfieted properties of the indicted 491ers
were sold and always shared among Ribadu and his henchmen. Ribadu was
the architect of the Civil unrest witnessed before and During 2007 General Election…
If Ribadu was trully fighting Corruption, he should have been more morrally upright
by rejecting a promotion issue with corrupt tedency.. Let’s stop all this sentiments.
Aso Villa was the most corrupt institution during the last Regime, was Ribadu not
there to see those evil deals? What about Andy Uba’s cash exportation Saga through
Presidential Jet? What about Odili case? What about all Illegal Impeachment Saga?
and numerous other evils? I am looking forward to seing the day Ribadu will be Docked,
tried and subsequently sentenced to jail, at least to have the taste of his illegality… but
the Agency must be upright enough to dig deep into his numerous shady deals to Shame
all uninformed sympathisers and convinced the Hypocritic Western Imbeciles that the
man decieved them in his fake crusade…….. Don Mike.

7 August 2008 22:57Its simple. Its a matter of, “what do you think Waziri is thinking now. What will become of her once she is out of that seat, especially if she does this dangerous job of her’s well “? If you are good in Nigeria, you’re toast.

7 August 2008 23:40After all these, is Nigeria worth dying for? That’s my question for our leaders. Try as they may, Ribadu will stand tall in the history of Nigeria as the one who had the balls to challenge corruption. Never have such large numbers of governors and power brokers been brought to book. In spite of his failings nobody has done half as much as he has done. Unfortunately in Nigeria the righteous are hounded while the crooks go about their businesses, even with the support of our so-called rulers who got to power by fraudulent means. GOD BLESS NIGERIA!

8 August 2008 00:46Some one suggested in one of the newspapers that Ribadu should resign and contest for the senate under the platform of THE PATRIOTS to be chaired by Gani Fawehinmi. I totally supported this idea and in sha Allaah, I promise to donate a thousand US dollars to support Ribadu’s candidacy. Not that i am rich but this will be a sacrifice. If hundred people can do it then Ribadu will shame Allaah’s, his and our enemies.

8 August 2008 01:17Hmmm, Nigeria is now like an orchard that is being managed as it pleases the keeper! Let’s not deceive ourselvesh, from the Federal Govt to establishments owned by any level of Govt, the application of the law depends on who is involved. Theherre are so many people bigger than the law in Nigeria. Yesterday, Obj, Bode George, Ahmadu Ali, Anenin and the rest of them were bigger than Nigeria and her laws, it is the turn of another group. Why is it that God so blessed us, but alloweed shameless thieves to be in control?
Anyway, Nebuchadnasa’r and his likes paid for their sins. Obj, Bode George, Agagus, the Ubas, Iboris, Anenins, Iwuanyanwus, and all others barawos (oles, onye ochi) will pay one day. Thanks to the efforts of the Niger Delta courageous youth, this is a sign that other youths in other areas will wake up against these cogenital thieves soon. My appeal is that the youths should be focused, untired and selfless.

8 August 2008 05:01I have been following news from Nigeria though living outside shores of Nigeria. It very dishearting ‘discouraging to be reading of late what Ribadu is going through. What can we make and think of Nigeria as a country?. Why has our morallity completely gone to the winds?. Why are there so many people who are above the law?. What is happning to all the corrupt cases that have been revealed in the past. Why is it that Nigerian leaders past and present have continued to disappoint its citizenry. There are too many whys in my mind. However, my point for the President is this, Why has he chosen writing his history with chalk as again ink?. Let him sit down and think about his days after leaving office and see where and Nigeria will place him. We don’t need a push arounds and dommies as leaders.

8 August 2008 07:37THIS IS FOR NUHU RIBADU: GOD’S PUNISHMENT FOR HYPOCRITES ISAIAH 59:5:
The spider’s web is meant to catch its prey. Hypocrites are so sure of the spider’s web they have woven against you. No doubt, a spider’s web is a marvel of skill. How are the hypocrites capable of making a barefaced lie become a truth? But again, a spider’s web is very frail, it is curiously wrought but not enduringly manufactured. The spider’s web is of no match for God’s broom. ”Hypocritical cobwebs will soon come down when the besom of destruction begins its purifying work”. RIBADU, DO NOT BE AFRAID, GOD IS WITH YOU. 8 August 2008 07:55I feel sad and cry for the country, Nigeria. This is a country that call itself the giant of Africa! What hell is really happening. Why cant the government be focused for once and carry out its constitutional responsibility of promoting good governance. We keep on praying for Nigeria yet nothing is happening. Is it doomed? Perhaps our prayers are not enough.
Every reasonable person in Nigeria knows that Ribadu did well when he was the EFCC chairman although there might be some flaws which is normal in the human bevaviour as no one can attain perfection. My advice to government is to let Ribadu be. He has done well for this country. Why these humilations? We have not gotten any evidence of corruption against him. Moreover, what has Yaradua done to the likes of Babaginda, saraki, ibori, lukcy igbenedion, Alli Modu Sherriff, Atiku, Agagu, Gbenga Daniel, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Ahmed Yerima (former governor of Zamfara state), the list is endless.
When I read Kay Jay’s comment above, I tried to refresh my mind and I agree with him on the plans of these enemies of Nigeria’s progress. I will advice Ribadu to escape the country otherwise, these enemies have perfected their plans to eliminate him.
My general advice to all is that the human right activists, social crusaders and the likes should join hands with MEND and other militants in the country to enthrone a change once and for all. We need a revolution. We need it! And I repeat, we need it!! Enough is enough!!!.
For madam Farida, I will advice you to be careful of banana peel.

8 August 2008 08:05Yar’ Adua is too look-warm in ascertaining his foot-hold on proceedings in the goverment hence the ups and downs in the judicial process. Anyway, Ribadu has been used as a pawn in the game of chess same as Major El- Mustapha in the last Military Junta. Ribadu should surrender and resign/retire voluntarily without raising more dust.
I think its time Nigeria(ns) become more civilised and stop this godfatherism. Let the rule of law uphold and all perpertrators should be give back to back life sentences.
Regards to all my people. Who be mumu my people???

8 August 2008 09:28Ribadu. All I can say is that the evil that men do live after them. You may have been fighting for a just cause but your methods were unorthodox and quite sentimental in picking ur targets. I do wish u the best of luck.

8 August 2008 09:29Today, Ribadu begins to get a taste of his own medicine. Lets start to analyse this carefully… The EFCC was formed with a view to investigate and prosecute financial crimes including our so called leaders who enrich themselves at the expense of the ordinary Nigerian. Initially, Ribadu started out well but got his had soiled by following the whims and caprices of a depraved President Obasanjo who was only interested in using the EFCC as a tool to whip all his enemies both real and percieved into submission. Ribadu thus compromised his stance by supporting evil….third term blah blah blah……. Evil however can never triumph over good.. it may do so for a time but good will eventually triumph, so when Obsanjo’s evil was destroyed, it was only ineveitable that all those associated with it will be destroyed also…we can see the signs everywhere… the arrest of the Aborishade’s, Fani-Kayode’s.. the disgrace of Iyabo Obasanjo, the impending removal of Obasanjo as the BOT chairman and ostrazication by the International Community.. these are all signs that the world of Obasanjo and his “legacy” are crumbling… and who was his lightning Rod???????? Ribadu of course… his sword of Justice….. what better way to mark the destruction of his legacy by reducing his symbol… Ribadu should have known… you fight with the sword, you die by the sword…I do not feel an ounce of pity for Ribadu… he had it coming

8 August 2008 10:26We known it from from divine history that when a country is about to be wipe-out from existence, ‘ the morals becomes immorals ! the criminals becomes saints, and innocents becomes persecuted every day ! For the sake of patroitism, we say Nigeria go better ! but how can this nation full of immoral people and criminals be a better nation ? no country on earth, get its height, without over-hauling or putting in place a sound judicial system, but all we have here is ‘ shit system ‘ . In a country where killers are law-makers, rapist are governors, ministers are ritualist, PDP running the country, and president are sicklers ! so what do you espect ? Ribadu, i know you too is not a saint, but better than Ibori , lucky igbinedion, Orji, Saraki, Obj and others, So just run for your life ! cos if you die, no justice to probe your death . 8 August 2008 10:42Taiwo,
You and your cohorts are truly idiots because Ribadu is a product of corruption and facilitated political corruption in collaboration with Professor of Electoral Manipulation and Political Corruption, the “highly respected” Maurice Iwu. These men with OBJ excluded sane Nigerians from aspiring to Public Offices under the guise of security report. Abi, have you not heard that the American Congressman Jefferson has apologised to HE, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, GCON as well as informed the court that Atiku never solicited for bribe? A fabricated allegation by Ribadu to ensure reasonable cause for exclusion of the former from emerging as GCFR against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As for your dirty tongue and smelling mouth which you expressed with your fingers by your derogatory description of the EFCC Chairman as ashewo, you must be very careful, because she is prettier than your mother should not be a reason to insult her person. She is working for Nigeria and not Yar’ Adua. Bye Bye!

8 August 2008 10:48Treason!!!, please let us leave this man called RIBADU alone. He is being hounded because he stepped on some powerful toes while in office and this is bound to happen in every society. The head of a family (man) must step on toes if he want the family to progress. Ribadu tried his best for this country and my advice for my dear Alhaji is to let go carry his bag by leaving Kuru without further delay. Does that mean if he leaves NIPPS heaven will fall. Let him just relax and watch the end of his/Nigeria’s enemies, IBORI, Atiku, etc. God knows the best.

8 August 2008 11:49Nigeria will become great when we Nigerians stopped being sentimental. If Ribadu’s employers think he has committed felony let them charge him to court and from there we shall all see if indeed he was guilty of the offense. My candid advice is that let all who are being appointed to ‘political’ positions perform true to their conscience. if Ribadu will have any regret for taking the EFCC job, it will be that he compromised his stand on several occasions with Obj by exhibiting selective arrests. He can still salvage his ego and please his conscience by publishing whatever ‘damaging info’ he has on how Yar’adua ‘became mr. president, preferably in international media. Ribadu should bear his cross with equanimity. Am sure Nigeria will be great one day through collective sacrifices of all of us.

8 August 2008 12:57Well, I really would not weep over Ribadu. If he had been forthright during his tunure and never allowed himself to be used by Obasanjo, opinions would not have been divided on the treatment being meted out to him now. He trod like King-Kong on those not in the good books of Obasanjo while looking the other way when it came to cases involving Obasanjo boys. Or how come he never prosecuted the likes of Bode George and Akala.
This should be a lesson for Farida Waziri that she cannot be there for ever. So watch what you do now!

8 August 2008 13:14During the last general elections, I voted convincingly for Yar’adua because as at then I believed so much in him. With the turn of events,I have my reservations as to whether this man actually have the capacity to rule this complex nation called Nigeria. Could it be possible that the Police Service Commission (PSC) could just go ahead and announce the demotion of Mall Ribadu and 139 others without receiving the President’s blessing? Please educate me! If not, what must have been responsible for this irrational and retrogressive decision? I hope the President is not trying to give us the impression that he does not have a brain of his own. It is regrettable that most Nigerians don’t read history and any person who does not read history don’t learn from past mistakes. I pity this Country!

8 August 2008 13:17IT IS ONLY IN NIGERIA THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPECTED TO BE ENJOYING TRHEMSEVES IN JAIL ARE POWER BROKERS IN SEAT OF GOVERNMENT WHETHER WITH RIGGED OR PURCHASED MANDATE. RIBADU SHOULD BE HAPPY . IF EVEN THEY THROW HIM INTO JAIL , HE WILL COME OUT A HERO. IN THE LAST 2000 YEARS , HISTORY DID NOT TELL US THAT JUST AND TRUSTWORTHY MEN SUFFER IN VAIN. IF WE HAVE TO CATEGORISE YARRADUA, OBASANJO, RIBADU COLNEL UMAR, BABANGIDA , GOV SARAKI, ALAO AKALA, ODILI ALAMASIGHA, BODE GEORGE, TAFA BALOGUN, IDIAGBON, IBORI, AGAGU, ETC. MOST PEOPLE WILL AGREE WITH ME THAT RIBADU, COL UMAR AND GEN IDIAGBO COULD NOT BE CATEGORISED WITH THESE OTHER PEOPLE. THE PEOPLE KNOW THEIR HERO. LET THEM CONTINUE TO HOUND RIBADU WHILE THEY ARE BUSY USING BIRO TO ROB THE NATION. GOD SHALL JUDGE THEM. NIGERIA IS IN DARKNESS BECAUSE THEY HAVE DECIDED TO PUT THE NATION IN THE DARK. 8 August 2008 13:55The problem of Nigeria got worse from 1978, because ‘Najia Democray - govt of the oppressed people by the unelected, wicked, heartless thieves for hungry people in the mist of abundance’ was born.
Remember before 1979, 1 USD Dollar = 90 Kobo.
Conclusion, the BEST ‘Najia democracy’ is WORST than the worst Military goverment’.

8 August 2008 15:11Ribadu does not deserve any pity from me.Now let us get this right,I am not a supporter of Ibori who stole billions from his own people, neither do I care about yaradua,A lame duck sick president.I am here to talk about the tyrant called Ribadu who nearly truncated our democracy.
It was Ribadu who loakced up all the members of the Plateau house of Assesmbly for one year because they refuse to impeach Dariye. When 6 of them agrred he took them by bus to Jos for the impeachment. It was the same Ribadu who published a famous “not fit to rule” list that led INEC to disqualify so many aspirants. Now we have situations where tribunals are saying we should have new elections. It was the same Ribadu who did not see any fraud in NPA.The same EFCC has now arrested Thief Bode George.During Ribadu’s tenure not a single minister was corrupt. All corrupt officials were governors.Only governors.Yet Governors control less than 40 percent of Nigeria’s budget.
Ribadu was appointed EFCC chairman as a Chief Supritendant of Police.& years later he was an AIG.And the people who were appointed with him were not promoted.Ask Lamorde and Magu who were considered the brains behind the many victories of EFCC how they felt watching thier mate promoted over and above them in a rapid manner.

(Uthman Dan Fodio) In Nigeria the wound is still fresh and will never be healed as long as the crop of leaders we have remain there. they are there preaching honesty where as they are corupt and evil. Ribadu threw away his concience and made himself a robot in the hands of Obasanjo who catapulted him to the throne where nothing would stop him from being used to chase after and frustrate his (Obasanjo) enemies. Obasanjo is no longer in power I suggeast that Ribadu be prosecuted or better stil let him go home from prison. Ribadu was after all the government officials who at one time or the other had reasons to say NO to Obasanjo, hence made Obasanjo and those in his camp who never mearnt well for this country indispensible. Well let him that has dug the pit fall into it. and let Nigeria move forward

10 August 2008 18:21(1) Under the Nigeria Police Service Commission Act of 2001, the reconstituted Police Service Commission (PSC) has powers to sanction, demote, promote, retire and dismiss any senior police officer other than the Inspector-General of Police.
(2) There’s nothing the Police Service Commission can do about that now that Okiro is the Inspector General.
(3) Demotion connotes administrative punishment for grievous offences.
(4) The case at hand (under the scope of powers of the PSC,) implies that Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and others are deemed to have committed grievous offences.
In the light of the above, our question should be: what offences have they committed? Not trying to front, I just want Nigerians to argue with facts so we dont make mistakes of the past. So please stop being naive by asking why Okiro’s promotion hasn’t been queried either by the PSC or whoever is involved in the whole imbroglio.
God bless Nigeria.

10 August 2008 21:17Am not too surprised at the responses to this news.
i very much agree with femi that Ribadu has written his name in gold in our hearts tho he had his flaws and we all do.
with respect to his demotion, its really not justifiable. i see it as a witch-hunt.
If people are to be demoted, the current IGP mike okiro should also be demoted. it is on record that he was promoted a DIG from CP and never went through the rank of AIG. Let us not also forget that ogbonnaya onovo, a DIG is senior to mike okiro yet because onovo is an ibo man, yaradua refused to make him IG picking okiro instead.
i really doubt if nigeria is a country worth dying for. the labors of our heroes past is no longer being in vain, it is being humiliated.
so so unfortunate.

11 August 2008 09:26This is the kind of resul you get when IT students rule a nation.
I pray God will; save us from the habinger of the worst government ever in Power.
All about Ribadu is not the fault of Ribadu but that of Government which I learnt is a continum.
This government, if going to be serious should not only restore the rank of Ribadu and stop witch-hunting him at NIPPS with SSS trail but also pay him damages for defamation of character, embarrassment and harassment.
I just wonder what the rule of law is when the corrupt ones are hose playing the tune for government’s dancing steps.-A dance of shame and carricature I’ll say.
May the Lord bless Nigeria.

31 August 2008 23:47Although this is stale, facts are that Ribadu’s name will remain indelible in the heart of millions on Africans and their links in Europe.Abachas regime may not have recieved the node of the International community, yet within that regime existed a leading light in the person of Buba Marwa. So also Obasanjos regime may not have been pleasant to many Nigerian Africans, yet in that same government was a young man who laid his life to fight head-long persons, whose main duties was to steal public funds. And while they stole, some strange fellows endulged in the habit of praising them.Would such a thing be allowed to occur in England my present base? The answer is a surely NO.Why then are people still in the habit of praising persons implicated in the evil-trade of public fund misappropriation as against those fighting them. The Nigerian system will never never function as long as people encourage stealingor looting. They are doing what they doing to Ribadu because good people have gone aground for bad people. An average Nigerian worker is impoverished because looting exists,it has also become the driving force for persons striving to occupy public position[s]It is time to think
