2003 Polls: How We Foiled Obj’s Plot To Capture Lagos —Akhigbe

January 28, 2010 15:19, 3,217 views

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

Former Chief of General Staff, Rear Admiral Mike Akhigbe (retd) has revealed that he was the one of those who thwarted plans by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to capture Lagos State during the 2003 elections.

Akhigbe, who spoke at the Christian Consultative Forum Seminar in Lagos yesterday, stated that the former president had perfected strategies to rig elections in the six South-West States then controlled by the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

According to Akhigbe, the then Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Young Arebamen had called him on phone to intimate him of the decision of the Federal Government to capture Lagos State and wanted to use him as the instrument to carry out the act.

He explained that the Inspector General of Police then, Mr. Tafa Balogun had conveyed the president’s message to Arebamen to crush the AD’s opposition led by former Governor Bola Tinubu so that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could take over Lagos State.

Akhigbe quoted Arebamen as vowing that he could not do such a thing that would trouble his conscience all the rest of his life and resolved to disobey the president’s order and face the consequence.

He added that as Balogun mounted pressure on Arebamen to carry out the president’s order, the former commissioner of police called him and explained the situation to him and his insistence that he would never take part in rigging election in Lagos State.

Akhigbe said he called the late Aide De Camp (ADC) to the president, Giwa Amu who gave him Obasanjo’s number.

He stated that he called Obasanjo on phone and warned him of the dire consequence of trying to rig election in Lagos State, knowing full well that the state was volatile and that the action might lead to chaos which would attract the attention of the international media, thus tarnishing the image of the nation.

According to him, Obasanjo was surprised at his audacity in calling him to warn him of the consequence of rigging elections in Lagos, saying that the president then changed his mind, adding that “you can see what happened in the other five AD states.”

OBASANJO HIMSELF IS SEEING LEGACIES LEFT BEHIND BY HIM. THIS IS A POINTER TO THE FACT THATTHAT HE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSE SHOULD NOT THROW STONE. OBASANJO HAS THE BEST OPPORTUNITY IN THIS WORLD TO WRITE HIS NAME ON A PLATTER OF GOLD, BUT HE CHOSE OTHERWISE. LOOK AT MANDELA TODAY, THOUGH HE MAY NOT BE AS RICH AS OBASANJO (COURTESY OF HIS LOOT), BUT HE IS KNOWN AND RESPECTED WORLDWIDE AS A FATHER OF MODERN SOUTH AFRICA. SEE WHAT HAPPEN TO HIM OF RECENT, HE CALLED YAR’ ADUA TO RESIGN WHICH WAS A GOOD UTTERANCE FROM A NATIONAL LEADER, BUT HE RECIEVED CONDEMNATION BECAUSE OF HIS ANTICEDENTS. YES HE IS RICH, BUT TODAY, OBASANJO REMAIN THE ACHITECT OF RUINED NIGERIA. HE GAVE US THE MESS WE ARE IN TODAY. I PRAY FOR HIM TO LIVE LONG SO THAT HE CAN REAP THE FRUITS OF HIS WICKEDNESS. AFTERALL, LAGOS - ABEOKUTA ROAD IS ONE OF THE EXHIBITS, ESPECIALLY SANGO BRIDGE THAT PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS REFER TO.

Honestly if I were to be OBJ i will just go and hang myself. Almighty GOD gave him a rare oppurtunity yet he blew it up. He should start imagining how happy the nation will be when he dies. Even within PDP the old fool commands little or no respect

Akhigbe … you should be ashamed of yourself for being a big fool and an even bigger mumu … so u claimed in front of your christain brothers that you stopped OBJ from rigging only to help your new paymaster Tinubu to do the same thing … whats the difference between the two of them ??? … we the masses are the ones that ended up suffering from OBJ’s federal torture and Tinubu’s nauseating drivel … please go and sit down somewhere and continue enjoying your loot … Agbaya buruku. retired lootocrat.

i am so annoyed by this latter day saint .. the idiot goes about like a responsible and distinguished statesman when we all know how he made his money … chop chop and betrayal under IBB and Abacha .

Look who is talking, this Ahigbe man, where is he from, is he from Lagos? Why is he disturbing OBJ and Tinubu for their Owambe state. He should go back to his home state to fight Baba Barawo - Aneni, he should leave OPC to protect Lagos from OBJ and his guys.

Navy man, problem full Edo sate, if you want to talk, solve the problem of Italian prostitution ring first and then follow Aneni to bring the money for all highways in Nigeria, we know he has it in Edo state, you and all of you guys will one day pay. Yeye man, you call OBJ ADC, remember say de man done die, leave him out of your yeye mess. Nonsense.

The two most notorious Presidents Nigeria had ever produced were:
    i) Obasanjo, known for electoral fraud legacies 1979 and 2007
ii) Babangida, known for financial fraud legacies “419″, Corruption and other negative activities
The actions of these criminals called statemen will continue to hunt the progress of a potentially great country.
We dont need any revelation to know that they are criminals, when the votes of the people does not count, then elected/selected will never be accountable.

THERE ARE LOT OF WICKED REASONINGS AND SECRETS BEING CONSERVED BY THE LOOTERS OF NIGERIA’S WEALTH WHICH COULD HAVE DONE ALL THE ZITIZENS OF GENERATIONS OF NIGERIA A LOT OF GOOD OF WHICH GREEDINESS, CURRUPTIONS, POWER DRUNKENESS, MATERIALISM, SATANISM, AND HOPELESSNESS ON THE PART OF THE NIGERIA’S OPPORTUNISTIC RULERS HAD IMPPEDED OVERTIME, AS THE SAYING GOES- “SAGO NBUGO”. THE TIME IS AT THE DOOR WHEN A POWERFUL MAN WILL LET OUT CRY. THE TEARS OGA NAVY IS SHEDDING NOW IS CROCORDILE TEARS HE WAS AND STILL PART OF THE SYSTEM . TELL THEM ALL THE ACCUMULATED OF WEALTH AND THE GRABBED “LION SHARES” PART OF NATIONAL WEALTH WILL NOT DELIVER THEM ON “THAT DAY”. IT IS GOING TO BE A DAY OF GLOOM FOR BOTH PAST AND PRESENT OPPORTUNISTS WHO ARE STEALING THE WEALTH THAT BELONGS TO EVERY NIGERIANS. THE POLITICAL GIMICS HAVE NOT STOPPED. MOST OF THE POLITICIANS ARE STILL DEVILISHLY PLANNING TO RIG ANY ELECTION AND INSTALL THEMSELVES AT THE PERIL OF SUFFERING AND DYING NIGERIANS, THEY ARE GOING TO SCHEME TO KILL OPPONENTS AND USE THE CURRUPT , HOPELESS AND MATERIALISTIC SECURITY PARAPHANELIA TO TELL LIES AGAINST “INNOCENT ARMED ROBBERS”. THERE IS NOTHING THAT CANNOT BE MANIPULATED IN NIGERIA WHERE MONEY AND FLAMBOYANCY ARE WORSHIPED. MORE PANDORA BOXES ARE MANY IN STOCK YET TO BE OPENED.

Akhigbe, are you telling us that Obasanjo is a rigger and that in he indeed rigged the remaining five States in the West? Where are our institutions? Can OBJ be questioned and brought to book? What evidence do we need to prosecute him. Akihgbe is handy to testify.

I am not surprise that all fellow Nigerian comment on this so called Akhige,
when He was no2 they arrange US delegate to give Abiola a cup of tea, they arrange with IBB to pave way for OBJ just for the interest of military cabal.
    Yet there still in govt.
just watch if no 1 is not military , it could be no2 or 3
Akhige is looking for no 2 against 2011 which there we be no Nigeria again
though the may pick him in the republic he may fall into by then
But as for yoruba he shd forget it he cannnot rule us again
Let all of you know this now we will break off from nigeria any moment.
Almagamation has ended after 100 years. no more coexistence of peace again
then let separate now peacefullyor otherwise
i will definately single handed finance it
we are tired of this jamboree democracy or one nation of certain cabal from north.

There is no news any of this so call military leaders can tell us ,we have seen and heard the worst about them, n igerians are unluck to be in these groups hand. Akhigbe should close is mouth. As for Obasanjo is a shameless man, that tells the extent an average African leader can go when hungry for power. We need to enact inheritance tax law in Africa because power is all about money and we should stop them from passing this looted money to their unborn children.

Most commentators are a big disapointment.no one even bother to comment on the genuiness or otherwise of what the man has said. are those revelation useful and intructive, yes, any lesson to learn from it , plenty. so why are these people living ete to pursue lapalapa? rubish, absolute rubish, the reason is that the people have been so devasted by hunger and poverty that they now find it hard to think constuctively even when they are being asked t o come chop.poor people. Akhigbe have spoken his mind . those who care to hear would hear and learn from it even though this fact was already known to many people but it is good all the same that someone in a position of Akhigbe is sayiny it openly. bi iro balo logun odun, ojo kan ni ooto ma le ba. truth is bitter.

I think that we need a political revolution like the one that took place in Chana so that people who would want this country to remain in the dark can give way for the Light.
