Beware Of The Last Few Days — OPC Chief

December 21, 2009 14:32, 69 views

By Damola Ogundimu

The Lagos State Commandant of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) Comrade Akinremi Akinyemi, has appealed to Lagosians to help reduce the frequent Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) which he said has become a hidden epidemic on the world’s roadways and is fast claiming lives and valuables, especially as we approach the new year.

Speaking at the organisation’s rally at Oshodi recently, he stated that the ember months, as they are so called, are not evil months, rather, what causes accidents during the period are lack of discipline and a good driving culture.

To avoid accidents this season, he appealed to all drivers to be more disciplined and conscious of the fact that so many peoples’ lives are in their hands.

He said drivers, especially, commercial drivers, should avoid overloading; non-usage of seat belts; over speeding; use of phone while driving; use of worn out or fairly used tires, as well as the non usage of crash helmets by motorcyclists. He said these things will on the long run impact positively on our driving culture, thus making the roads safer for users.

Akinyemi also appealed to all OPC members to wake up to their task and not forget their primary duty of ensuring security in the state, especially during the Christmas and new year celebrations.

He also implored the police to look upon the organisation as partners in securing the state, adding they are always ready to work with them.
