Chief Executive Officer of Lead Capital, Mr. Bimbo Olashore, says he does not see himself going into politics, considering the way it is being practised in Nigeria.
Mr. Olashore spoke on ‘Rising Above The Economic Meltdown’ at a lecture organised by the International Church of Christ, Nigeria, as part of the activities marking its 25th anniversary.
The financial guru, who rated the leadership of the country low, stressed that the country would continue to be ruled by “imbeciles because Nigerians are too docile.”
Answering a question on why people like him do not aspire for political offices in Nigeria, he said: ”Politics looks good, but the road to political office is discouraging. If you are not like them, you can never be given any office,” he told the gathering.
Olashore said he has always had the ambition of serving the country as the head of an agency of the government where his services would be free, but given his kind of person and the country’s leadership, he would want to reconsider the ambition.
“I sometime pity some of my colleagues who are made ministers. They go there with much zeal to change things. When they get there, they discover a different thing,” the financial expert said.
He accused former president Olusegun Obasanjo of insulting the entire country by his open romance with the late Ibadan politician, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.
He also condemned the fraudulent activities that took place in Transcorp PLC. The banker disclosed that most of the current ministers in President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s administration lacked the necessary initiative to tackle the problems facing the country.
Illustrating this, he said that recently, the president said he had the vision to build two million houses for Nigerians, the Minister of Housing came out and said only 200,000 could be landlords and nothing was done.
“I expected the president to have sacked the minister for not sharing in his vision or helping him meet it,” he said, adding that only a ‘mini-revolution’ can save the country from its leaders.

9 July 2009 18:42I cannot agree less with Mr Olashore. Our politicians and “leaders” are a bunch of mediocres who only think of themselves without sparing a thought for others. We have in power a minister of education throws a birthday party when University lecturers are on strike. We have a minister who asks Nigerians to rebrand when her own children are marrying foreigners and living in foreign countries. We have a minister of works who inspects a bad road and runs back because he cannot bear the hardship on the road. We have Senators who only want striking RATTAWU workers to allow Outside Broadcast Vans to cover their proceedings without doing anything concrete about their demands. We have House of Reps members who collect honorarium for listening to lectures delivered to them at a retreat. And worst of all we have a President who cannot take decisive actions against all the indeadequacies in his Government. It is time for a REVOLUTION, Nigerians, against bad leaders.

10 July 2009 05:36What did Bimbo do with Lead Merchant Bank if we may ask? I think he is just flying a kite. After inheriting a Bank his father established, with little or no experience, Bimbo proceeded to run the place aground. So many careers were broken, depositors were left in the lurch while he lived a life he did not labour for. I think Bimbo should look forward to managing his father’s hotel in Ilesha if he doesnt know what to do with Lead Capital anymore. A word is enough for the wise!
