St. Joseph ’ll Be Better —Coach

July 02, 2009 14:26, 62 views

Coach of St. Joseph Secondary School Tdt-Mangoro, Agege, Olusoji Olukayode, says though his team were defeated 3-2 by Stadium Grammar School in a friendly tie last week, the boys will bounce back in future matches.

According to Olukayode, a sports journalist, “We did well in the first stanza and really the game was ours for the taking but loss of concentration was our bane. My boys no doubt were not happy that they failed to pick something from this game especially with the encouragement we got from the management of the school. But by God’s special grace, we will be back, better and stronger. We are trying to build a team for the Principal’s Cup, we are not where we want to be yet, but we will get there.”

St. Joseph Secondary School were on the verge of victory, when they went up 2-0 in the first half of their friendly tie away to Stadium Grammar School at the Ifako Ijaiye Housing Estate playground mid last week, but a second half rally by the hosts made certain that the Mangoro boys went home without the much desired win.

St. Joseph’s Olaolu Bamigbaye had sent the away bench rejoicing when he headed home a Kenneth David’s cross from the right, in the first half. Deep in the same half, skipper on the team, Precious Gabriel sent home a direct freekick from about 30 metres out to leave scores at 2-0 at the end of the first half.

However, the hosts came back strongly in the second stanza with a goal from Godwin Okorie before Nuru Oyekanmi slotted in the equaliser later on. Minutes before the end of the encounter, Oyekanmi was on hand to score from the penalty spot to put final scores at 3-2 against the visitors.
