Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State yesterday rose spiritedly to deny allegations that he administered traditional oath on public office seekers in his house in Ijebu-Ode as claimed by a disgraced lawmaker, Wale Alausa.
In a statement issued by his Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Samuel, Daniel said he never and will never admit secret oath on anybody, neither will he get involved in any sordid act that will bring the state into disrepute.
Reacting to Alausa’s response to his nude photographs published in the newspapers showing him performing traditional oath, Gov. Daniel accused the lawmaker of misinforming the public and embarking on a calculated smear campaign in a desperate bid to destabilise Ogun State and retard the progress of the last six years.
Alausa had admitted taking the traditional oath in a toilet in Governor Daniel’s house at Ijebu-Ode.
He also alleged at a press conference in Lagos that the governor has a shrine in his Sagamu residence where political office seekers go to perform traditional oath and pledge allegiance to him.
However, Daniel in a statement described Alausa’s allegations as brazen lies to cover his perfidy. Here are excerpts from the statement:
“What has emerged from Alausa are series of lies, outright falsehood and brazen inconsistencies.
“Contrary to Hon. Alausa’s claim that he was at a shrine in Ijebu Ode with the Governor to swear to a secret fetish oath on the 15th of May 2008 and as such he could not participate in the impeachment of the then Speaker Hon. Titi Oseni , it has also been established by a scrutiny of the records of the House that he was indeed present at the sitting of May 15, 2008 and took part in the impeachment proceedings. The hansard of the House which is a public document clearly establishes his presence and participation in the House proceedings of May 15, 2008. Hon Alausa played a prominent role in the coup d’état against Mrs. Titi Oseni as one of the arrowheads of the group of 15 lawmakers whose plot to destabilise the state began on that day.
“Again Alausa claimed that local government chairmen and other senior government officials all swore to the same fetish oath. This lie has also been exposed. Hon John Obafemi, the Chairman of ALGON in Ogun State, has on behalf of his colleagues discredited the devilish claim of Alausa. Other top government officials have also given a lie to Alausa’s claim.
“The question for discerning minds is why they have now vowed to destroy the man who ostensibly administered the oath on them. Interestingly, the G15 members had said at various fora and television interviews that they never took any secret oath. At least they now admit that there was a secret fetish oath. Probably this is the reason why the G15 have refused all entreaties by all and sundry to return to the path of sanity.
“For the avoidance of doubt Governor Gbenga Daniel has never and will never administer secret oath on anybody and will not get involved in any sordid acts that will bring our state into disrepute. Those who did should come clean instead of misinforming the public and embarking on a calculated smear campaign in a desperate bid to destabilise Ogun State and retard the progress of the last six years.
“In a brazen attempt to drag everybody into the mud with him, Alausa unashamedly also declared that our revered royal father, Oba Sikiru Adetona, Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, was part of the oath taking process in the residence of the Governor in Ijebu Ode. We are aware that Kabiyesi Awujale of Ijebuland was with the Governor in Sagamu on the 18th of May 2008 with other traditional rulers and prominent citizens of Ogun State to receive a former president and commander in chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic who came to commiserate with the Governor over the demise of his mother.
“At the occasion the Awujale of Ijebuland, the Alake of Egbaland, the Akarigbo of Remoland and other traditional rulers ostensibly because of the change in the leadership of the House, used the opportunity to appeal to members of the State House of Assembly who were also present in Sagamu to cooperate with the governor in the interest of the state. How that action, which took place in the public glare, now translates into the spurious allegation of Alausa against our revered royal father beats the imagination of all right thinking people. His royal majesty has since exposed Alausa’s brazen lie against his person and exalted throne.
“Alausa did not spare his own biological father, Chief Agboola Alausa in his bizarre cocktail of allegations and lies. He also claimed in some reports that his father was one of those who forced him to take the fetish oath. Chief Agboola has since denounced the lawmaker’s claim. The poor man said emphatically that his son, Wale Alausa, is a pathological liar and a disgrace to the name of the family.”
Meanwhile, foremost traditional ruler in Ijebuland, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II, has dissociated himself from the blood oath controversy currently rocking Ogun state.
Embattled member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Wale Alausa, who was at the centre of the whole saga, mentioned his father, Chief Agboola Alausa and ‘a prominent traditional ruler in Ijebuland, as those who persuaded him to take the oath in 2007 inorder to get the PDP ticket for the House of Assembly election.
Similarly, Ogun state Governor Gbenga Daniel also mentioned why prominent royal father like the Awujale of Ijebu land and others could not successfully intervene in the crisis, blaming it on the blood oath of allegiance allegedly taken by the G15 lawmakers.
However, in a swift reaction through his secretary, Mrs. Fisayo Akudu, the Awujale denied any knowledge of the blood oath, stressing that it was all lies and there was no logic in the assertion that the royal father was involved in the oath.
“I knew nothing about blood oath taking, I was not involved, as a well respected Oba, my name should not be dragged into this issue,” the paramount royal father of Ijebu land warned.

I am aware that all these struggle are as a result of 2011 governorship tussle which Obasanjo is justling to have Iyabo govern Ogun.
Make no mistake.., Obasanjo is responsible for this crises. He is the worm inside this open wund aflicting Ogun..,it was the same stuff he did to Anambra,Oyo and in other states when he was a “useless” president of Nigeria that he has now taken back home.
I have said that until Obasanjo is put in jail or better still, dead, Nigeria will not know true peace. Its time….away with OBJ.

All along, it had been the revered (?) king inviting the assembly men to his domain in Ijebu-Ode for one reason or another. Who knows what he was trying to get from them or make them do. It is time everybody allows events to play itself out and lrt peace reign supreme in Ogun State. OBJ can see the turn of things now. 2 July 2009 21:25Truth is, oath taking is real and alive in our politics in Nigeria, no thanks to OBJ’s brand of do or die politics. Let us look beyond OGD and the lawmakers in Ogun State, else we won’t see the bigger picture. It happens across all the states of the nation and is the tragedy of our politics.
Nigeria needs to get something done about OBJ, he is behind all the happenings between legislators and OGD in Ogun state. OBJ simply refuse to come to terms that he is no longer the president, he wants control of the state, he wants to be the god-father, an emperor.
There is no doubt that if OBJ is removed from the scene today, all the issues of oath, juju etc will naturally die off, and our politics will get better, at least to some extent. OGD may have done wrong along the line, but naturally, you will expect him to employ all means necessary to claim his space in the face of rampaging monster that OBJ is. It is very bad but this is the sad reality of our politics.

What I am now waiting to see is the nude picture of the rest G15 legislator as Governor Gbenga Daniel claimed. If Compass can not publish there photograth; it means they have deceived the whole world; and this is shame to OGD. I read in the news paper sometime early this year that OGD is making some people in PDP to swear oath in a shire in Ijebu after which he will give them some money. Why is OGD particular in blood oath, shire and all this nonsense. Why does he want to drag people of Ogun state into endless debt. Anyway God will punish you and your Wale Alahusa. Remember Bi iro ba lo logun odun Otito a ba sa ni. I am disappointed by the Obas that can not come out boldly and speak the truth like the G15 legislator challenging OGD directly. I believe the nude picture came out purposely to divert peoples attention from the debt OGD wants to drag the state into.

3 July 2009 12:05i don’t blame them, this is just a boy (Wale) that has had irresponsible lifestyle in Ogun state university and goes then abroad without any ambition.
He was invited by his father to come back to Nigeria and was offered political positions as incentive.
I think we should be fed up with all these gross irresponsibility and misconduct by public officials who fail to realise their responsibilities as servants.
The real cas should be murder, cos someone’s life got taken to obtain the blood. But rather they’l be hangin on to political positions like their live depends on it. Even some times shamelessly. They should be in jail!

Imagine, if OBJ has no interest in this crises, and he is actually a statesman that he claims to be, he could call Gov. Daniel and the legislators and settle this case in one day. Its because he has interest in the crises and he is not a states man that is why he can’t settle this case.
Secondly.., you said if you don’t like PDP.., vote them out in 2011.., why are you talking as if people’s votes matter in Nigeria? Ekiti is just a recent example and Obasanjo is the man who institutionalised rigging as a way of getting political post in Nigeria. OBasanjo is a shamelessman. Away with him.

3 July 2009 15:54This scenario is a good illustration of how Nigerians would do anything, go any length, to grab power and wealth to everybody else’s detriment. Our politicians are nothing but brigands. They convert the money meant for the common good to their personal tools in order to satisfy their weird insatiable appetites for the mundane. Wale Alausa is just a stark revelation of what obtains in the political arena. Every of their action or inaction is borne out of self centred motives. They have no concern for the populace whom they see as mere morons. There must be some truth in that though otherwise why do we sit down and let these people mess with our lives. Another school of thought has it that we must be mosttly made of the same stock with same blood running through our veins and would fall in the same way if given a chance to be there.
