Woman Arrested For Marrying Two Men

June 18, 2009 14:49, 800 views
By  Cyriacus  Izuekwe

For marrying two men at the same time, men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 48-year-old housewife, Okeowo Ada.

Okeowo was arrested by the police in Shasha in Alimosho council area, when two men, Demola and Afolabi, who laid claim to being her husband, engaged each other in a street fight. P.M.NEWS gathered that Demola confronted Afolabi accusing him of having amorous affairs with his wife. Unknown to them, the woman was married to each of them at separate marriage registries, as discovered by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Sergeant Shittu, during interrogation of Okeowo Ada .

The police officer therefore arrested the woman and detained her at the station. She will likely face a charge of conduct capable of breaching the peace, as well as bigamy, an offence relating to a woman marrying more than one man at the same time. When our reporter visited the Shasha police station, Okeowo Ada was seen around but she declined to speak on the matter. The police also declined comments. However, a reliable source from the police station confirmed the incident. The source also told our reporter that the woman will be arraigned in the court very soon.

I don’t see a problem here.As long as men can do it,I believe women can as well do the same.Instead of the police to go and fight proper crime, they are wasting their time chasing a case that will come to nought after some exchange of money.Nonsense

They should release the woman immediately after all men have many wives so why cant she have multiple husbands? Infact if she is good looking I want to be husband number 3

what a man can do woman can do also as they said. if men can be polygamous women can also be as well. but buttom line is, when a man marrys a wife and he is not living with her what did he expect. he expect nothing other than to share his wife with some other men out-there. in the case of ada she wants to make it an official sharing.cos if any of these men are living in the same house with ada, playing his role as a husband and behaving like a married man, she will not have time to do that which she did. but why should a woman marry more than one husband likewise men.a woman that marrys more than one husband didn’t not have a husband and a man that marrys more than one wife did not have a wife. men and women beware. court,tradition/custom and western marriages doesn’t wed/joins a man and women or men and woman at the same time.it is man + woman=marriage

for nigerian police, there are some ISSUESTHAT NEED URGENT ATTENTION which they have to attend urgently and not these. well as their work be they may want to cut some some money from those men and later leave the woman to marry.

Demola and Afolabi who claimed to be husbands of Okeowo must be criminals. A normal human being should not fall victim of such woman. The two of them has to be investigated. Where is Okeowo and the two acclaimed husbands leaving? Are they leaving together or separately? You mean they are fighting over 48yr old woman? What is there own age? They need tobe invetigated.

In as much as I find this case unprecedented and rather amusing. We must reconcile with the fact that Bigamy is a crime in the Nigerian Constitution. Anyone who had a Registry Marriage will remember being warned over and over against the illegality of marrying a second spouse. Interestingly, this law I believe also affects the men. i.e they cannot legally marry a 2nd wife after marrying a first one in the registry/court!

i cant blame the woman, how can a man marry a woman and she is going out with another man for that long without him knowing it. at least from her behaviour you will know, most atimes illiteracy is the cause of all these societal neusancies.

thank God our police men did not have anything reasonable to do, so this is another source of income to whoever may be the IPO.

Tribunal in which world are you living,no one is saying she cant follow any amount of men she want, but getting married with 2 men in a court of law is wrong and infact carries a fine,so dont say nonsense about the nigeria police when they are carrying out there duties vale.

THE TWO MEN ARE FOOLS AND IF YOU CHECK WELL THEY BOTH HAVE MORE THAN ONE WIFE, THAT WAS WHY IT WAS POSSIBLE FOR THE WOMAN TO FOOL THEM.

I do not condone what Ada did but, there are millions of men who married in the registry and went on to marry more wives-
The police need to go after such men before they arrest this woman. People go to the registry any how to get a marriage cert.
to take to embassies, Are they sure that one of these marriages is not for such purpose.

People should think well before writing things on the net, have you ever heard of those men with many women going to magistrate court to contract the other marriages? They only contract one, and the rest are just girlfriend that have kids for them.

  25. Doyin

    18 June 2009 23:39

The issue is not marrying two husbands at the same time. But this woman married two of them at Govt’s registry. No law will arrest her if she marries ten the same day in as much as she does it outside Govt’s registry. his biogamy.

Our marriage registry should endeavour to conduct some background checks on their prospective ‘customers’ b/4 joining them. Sophia has a point.

Police men please get ur money and leave the fools. Come to think of this case may be the first husband is not a real man otherwise if you fuck any woman well she will never leave you to maryy another man.

any man/woman can fall victim to bigamy; a perpetrator can claim to one spouse that s/he is on night shift, while telling another that it’s morning shift, and then tell the duo s/he gets home late due to traffic… t’s hard to beat a trustee to her/his deceit.

BIGAMY MEANS GETTING MARRIED MORE THAN ONCE “OFFICIALLY”; T’S A TYPE OF POLYGAMY/POLYANDRY, BUT PUNISHABLE UNDER NIGERIAN LAW…

UNDOCUMENTED POLYGAMY/POLYANDRY (i.e. with one legally married spouse, while the rest are NOT) IS NOT PUNISHABLE IN NIGERIA.
THIS LEAVES ALLOWANCE FOR CULTURAL/RELIGIOUS PRACTICES…

bigamy by woman/man is unlawful in Nigeria; men too were arrested in the past. those getting away with it are probably not reported/APPREHENDED.

Please I don’t think I have any thing to comment on this.Let equal right be shared between Men and Women.
If a woman remains faithful to her husband, the Man will cheat on her, if she gets a man friend, the man will cheat on her too, so the fact remains that women needs equal right, like a musician sang it years back. so carry on.
