The Lagos State Ministry of Youths Sports and Social Development has been commended for speedily giving approval to the forthcoming Oba of Lagos Kick-Boxing Championship.

Prince Adeniji-Adele, Performance and Technical Director of the Kick-Boxing Federation of Nigeria, (KFN) gave the words of commendation. He said the decision of the Lagos State of Ministry of Sports to approve the Kick-Boxing Championship which holds in July is a welcome development and would help KFN in putting in place modalities that will make the event a success.

Coach Adele, as he is fondly called, said the sole aim of staging the kick-boxing championship is to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the late Oba of Lagos, Adeniji- Adele.

The World Boxing Council (WBC)-badged referee said, after receiving a letter of approval from the state government, that the federation has commenced work on the tourney.

According to him, “we are organising the championship to commemorate the 45 years anniversary of the Oba of Lagos. We have the endorsement and support of the Lagos State government, so, we are looking at the possibility of making it a week-long event. The celebration has to be big, that is why we are staging the championship to honour the Oba of Lagos.”

On how interested people can be part of the championship, he disclosed that forms for the championship will soon be on sale all over the country because they want inputs from people across the country.

In the words of the chief coach of the Continental Boxing Academy, “this event will be an elaborate one, we want to involve interested people to be part of history. We want people from all walks of life to be part of it.”

Asked what kick-boxing fans should expect during the championship, he said a lot of fun awaits them, adding that apart from the normal celebration associated with the anniversary, Disc Jockeys will also be on hand to entertain them and there are gifts to be won each day of the event.

In terms of security of lives and property, he assured that there is no cause for alarm as members of the Nigeria Police will be assisted by other security agents to maintain law and order, both in and around the venue of the championship.

“I can assure you that there won’t be any security worries during the championship, since the state has given us the go ahead. We expect the officials to send security operatives to join us during the event. We are also involving other security agencies in the state because we don’t want any crowd trouble to ruin the beauty of the championship,” Adele assured.
