Enyimba Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen, has told enyimbafc.net individual mistakes undid his side in last weekend’s league derby against Bayelsa United.
Eguavoen stated that his players failed to convert their chances and it cost them heavily. “I am just as shocked as you are. We all are. The only thing I can attribute this loss to is the fact that we failed to take our chances. In football, when you fail to take your chances, it affects you psychologically. When you score goals, it gives you energy but once the scoreline remains goalless, it fires everyone up.”
“Like I said, individual mistakes cost us. We should have been at least two goals up in the first half, but again, we didn’t take our chances,” Eguavoen stated.
The former Super Eagles coach, however, called for calm, stating that there was no need to panic at this stage. He added that Enyimba still had two outstanding games and are five points behind Bayelsa United, who now top the table and will certainly turn things around.
“We can’t panic now. There’s no cause for alarm at the moment. We will keep working hard and improve on our games so we get the best results in every game.”
“People are bound to talk, whether you do well or do badly. But one thing I know is that the situation is not as bad as some might make it. “Afterall, the second goal in the game came after regulation time, in the 93rd minute. A clearance from the right flank that a player controlled and shot. He was expected to have crossed but he shot and it went in.
“Again, individual mistakes.” “You saw what happened in our game against Heartland. A game we could have won by four or five goals. Its the same thing that happened. We train our attackers hard and they do well in trainings but its a different thing when they go out there on the pitch, but I promise you that the best is yet to come from us as a team. “Maybe its pressure or lack of confidence, but we will definitely start getting results. Its a gradual process.”
