The heavy traffic always experienced on Lekki/Ajah road, has continued to be a source of worry and concern to commuters, residents and workers around the area.
Lagos Bulletin’s checks revealed that major points of the road now have pot holes with sand almost taking over half of the road.
Most affected are Chevron roundabout and Victoria Garden City roundabout, among other places.
Some of the users of the road who spoke with Lagos Bulletin expressed dissatisfaction over the bad state of the road and urged the appropriate authorities to come to the rescue.
Mr. John Oladele, a banker, attributed the bad state of the road to lack of water channels on both sides of the road. He said that until that is provided, the road will continue to be in a bad state even if it is rehabilitated.
According to him, “government should first provide water channels on both sides of the road before embarking on the road rehabilitation, adding, “if that is not done, no amount of rehabilitation work done on the road will work.”
Oladele also called on corporate organisations to join force with government in solving the problem.
A commuter bus driver, Chucks Nwachukwu, told Lagos Bulletin that the bad state of the road is one of the reasons high fares are charged.
Nwachukwu stated that if the road is rehabilitated and expanded as Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, transport fares will be forced to go down.
Meanwhile, commercial motorcyclists have capitalised on the traffic situation along the road, to hike fares.
A ride to Ajah from CMS now attracts N600 or N700 as against N100 or N150 as the case may be.
