”AC’ll Sweep Polls Tomorrow”—Fashola

October 10, 2008 17:28, 205 views

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

After an extensive and rigorous campaign by the Action Congress (AC) was brought to an end yesterday, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State says there is no stopping the party from winning the local government elections tomorrow by a landslide.

In the same vein, former governor of Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was so afraid of the AC when it saw the large crowd gathering for campaigns that its national headquarters decided to chicken out.

According to him, AC is a locomotive that is unstoppable in Lagos and urged Lagosians to cast their votes for the party. Thousands of AC supporters had gathered at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) to witness the grand finale of the campaign by the party before tomorrow’s polls.

Former Plateau State governor, Chief Solomon Lar; AC National Chairman, Bisi Akande; AC Lagos State Chairman, Henry Ajomale; Alhaji Mujahideen Asari Dokubo, AC Senators, House of Representatives and House of Assembly members graced the occasion. The TBS was a beehive of activities as AC supporters danced, displaying posters and singing along with fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde and his band.

It was the climax of a week-long campaign. Members of the party have started singing victory songs ahead of tomorrow’s polls. “In the last election, we won with over 500,000 votes. This time around, we will beat them with over a million votes,” said a confident Fashola. “Go and vote, we are ready for the polls. I will surprise the local government that comes up with the highest number of votes with a mega-city project,” he added.

Fashola stated that his administration had been able to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, adding that the design for a rail transport system had been completed, adding that, “we have constructed jetties at Ikorodu. 140 ferries will be brought to Lagos State in the next one week for a start of the water transportation system.”

According to Tinubu, the current administration had been able to transform Lagos, especially with the distribution of free text books to pupils and students in the state’s public schools on Wednesday.

He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of trying to interfere with the local government election using federal might, adding that several problems confronting the nation had not been addressed by the PDP.

On the Niger Delta issue, Tinubu called on the Federal Government to declare the region a disaster zone so that adequate economic planning could be made for the area. In his speech, Lar warned the Federal Government to steer clear of the local government election, saying that it had no business with it.

According to Asari Dokubo, Lagosians should come out en masse and vote for the AC in tomorrow’s LG polls, saying that the party remained the only option to fighting tyranny the nation. “AC will sweep the polls in Nigeria. On Saturday, you must invite all your friends to vote for AC so that democracy will progress,” he said.

Asari Dokubo does not need to come and tell us how and where to cast vote in Lagos State.

He should concentrate his efforts in developing the Niger-Delta.

I wonder why he has not demanded the looted monies from Alams and Jonathan if he is truly fighting
a case for his people. It is not just about the Federal Government alone. He should ask his kinsmen in government.

Asiwaju should be cautious is associating with these folks who may encourage terrorism in our own Lagos State.

Fashola’s good work is measurable for the people to know who is their choice.

I wonder how the council’s allocation in Lagos State is being divided!

    Eko o ni baje o!
