Ace movie producer and director, Abiodun Olanrewaju, popularly called Abbey Lanre, told OLAIDE ADEKUNLE about himself and what he does on a typical day
Q: How do you start your day?
A: My day starts as early as 6 a.m. I pray, take my bath, eat my breakfast if it is available or ready as at the time I’m going out and if it’s not ready, I go to my office.
Q: When do you normally wake up?
A: I wake at 5.30 a.m., precisely, because I have to pray for ten minutes before 6 a.m.
Q: When do you leave the house for the office?
A: I leave as soon as I’m ready, but not later than 9 a.m., because I’m a committed person.
Q: What do you do if you are not going to the office?
A: I don’t think I can do without it. My office is my second home. I go there even on Saturdays and Sundays. When I want to relax, I go to my office. There has never been any day I sit at home except during Sallah.
Q: What is your favourite food?
A: Anything goes, as long as I put it in my mouth and it doesn’t come back. I don’t think I am so particular about food.
Q: What of drinks?
A: I love water and tea. I also take soft drinks as long as it is orange.
Q: What attracts you to people?
A: I love moving with godfearing, straight forward people, who can tolerate other people. In fact, tolerance is the watch word.
Q: What puts you off about people?
A: I hate liars around me and don’t like to have anything to do with pretenders and arrogant people.
Q: If you are to make a wish now, what will that be?
A: My only wish now is to be an accomplished movie producer and director, excel in the industry, home and abroad.
Q: What will you like to be remembered for?
A: To have helped many, put smiles on the faces of as many as those facing challenges in life. I will also love to be remembered for the legacy I am leaving behind.
Q: How do you relax?
A: I relax by watching games, particularly football. I also watch good movies.
Q: Apart from your own directed movies, do you watch any other ones?
A: Yes, I watch good movies, both foreign and local. I take my time to watch them to improve my skill and for enjoyment.
Q: How do you relax with your family?
A: They understand the nature of my job that I’m a very busy man, but I still find time to take them out and if there is no time, they don’t get annoyed.
Q: Any memorable day?
A: I am yet to have one for now, but I don’t know what happens tomorrow because my days are always special and precious to me.
Q: Any sad moment?
A: God forbid it.
Q: Have you been embarrassed before?
A: It happens every time but I can’t really call that embarrassment. It’s just the way people approach me when I go out, some behave very awkwardly.
Q: What makes your day?
A: I feel happy and relaxed when I have achieved so much during the day, especially when I have put smiles on so many people’s faces.
Q: When do you retire back home?
A: Any time I finish from location, because at times, I don’t leave location till late in the night. But when I’m not on location, I make sure I’m at home by 9 p.m., latest.
Q: Your bed time?
A: I go to bed when I feel like, after I must have completed all I have to do for the day like going through my diary, reading through scripts and tidying them up against the next day.
