A man, Thomas Atumar, who could not stomach the pain and shame of having another man have sex with his wife, Mary Odey Atumar, has ended it all tragically by shooting his wife and himself dead.
Thomas, an itinerant hunter in the village of Mbube, on the outskirts of Ogoja, was very angry when he came back from his hunting expedition in the middle of the night to find his wife in a sex romp with a youth in the village, whose name was given as James.
James, P.M News gathered, had escaped through the window when the man came back unexpectedly and met him and his wife having sex in his room.
Efforts by the angry hunter, throughout the remaining part of the night, to locate and eliminate him with his gun failed, and when he returned to his house at dawn, he simply turned the gun on his wife. He shot her in the stomach, which left her entrails gushing out.
“After he shot his wife, he reloaded his gun and aimed at his chest, with the aid of his right toe, he pulled the trigger and killed himself, a source in the village told our reporter. “He knew the consequences of his action,” our source said.
The man’s anger, our source added, was uncontrollable having warned the woman to stay away from having sex romps with the young man who is said to be younger than her.
“The woman was about 30 years, while her husband was close to 40, and James is just about 22. The man felt terribly insulted that the wife could stoop so low to having sex with a boy that young,” said the source.
After the shooting, the bodies were carted to the Ogoja Police Station, and from there to the mortuary of the Ogoja General Hospital. The arrangement for the burial of both bodies is a task to be carried out by the deceased man’s family, since he is the one who “committed the act”.

19 August 2008 17:26What a pity. There is no excuse for murder and suicide. The duo are at fault as only God knows the fundation of thier love. It is a shame that the woman could not hold her body and the man hold his temper. They would both be subject to God’s judgement.

Let us not blame this guy too much,all of us gets mad at least for 30 seconds daily and madness occured to this guy while still holding his double barrel gun,I wish the young guy was gunned down too.

Any way, such is a common tale among those from a corrupt countries like ours. I would advise the ladies who feel that they are not marrage materials to stay out of wedluck even when they are forced to do so, because no matter how you may clean up a pig, it must definatelly go back to the mud. As the saying goes, “once a general is always a general” in the same vein, once a prostitute is always a prostitute.

I suspect he is impotent or he is not satisfying the woman hence the woman’s actions in getting down with a more virile man, but at the same time, if the man is 1000% complete, it is a known fact that Calabar girls are never satisfied with one dick. I know this well as i did my NYSC in Eket Akwa-ibom. So the reason this man took his own life is just ridiculous. There are millions of women out there and he should have just done with this one and move on. The other bloke is not at fault. When you have the right attitude to any paticular problem you will always come out victorous. Secondly, some are still baby husband and they need to grow to be able to control their temper. As for the woman, she suppose to escape in the first place to avoid the man’s wrath and come back when the man’s temper has subsided.

20 August 2008 16:08I bluntly disagree with Ola Glasgow’s last part comment! There are so many women that worth dying for! Anyway this man’s attitude taught a good lesson for every living soul. Anger destroys, kills and has no good end. We are advised to have total control of our emotion. The young man which Mr. Thomas Atumar killed himself and wife for still have his life to live, he chance of repentance and to live a godly live.
I hope they have children and I pray that they will not behave in like manner. Indeed, it is a tragedy. Let be careful in handly matters like this if not we may have ourselves to blame. May God help us!
