The authorities of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Abesan Annex, have in furtherance of their academic excellence, policy has commenced training of students ahead of the 2008/9 academic sessions.
The tutorial classes which started on 2 August, 2008 will run throughout the month of August, while normal classes will start by September.
On why the Annex embarked on the free tutorials, the Director of Studies, Mr. Kayode Abudu, stated that it was in the school’s character to organise tutorials for freshers to enable them cope with academic demands when proper lectures commence.
“This tutorial is tuition-free and this is our own little contribution to students’ academic excellence.
“Majority of you have been out of secondary school in the past 10 to 15 years and it’s imperative to refresh your minds on what you are likely to meet academically. It is now left for you to take good advantage of this free tutorials and make the best out of it,” he stated.
Ex-students and some lecturers, who took turn to address students advised that all forms of cultism and social vices should be shunned. “Any student with reasonable expectations must be morally and academically focused for them to achieve a success,” Mr. Momoh opined.
“Some students come to school to waste their parents’ hard-earned money. Some of you are here to enjoy the freedom of being a student and some of you are equally here to be educated. You must, therefore, put in your best in whatever you are asked to do. Don’t be deceived by any ex-student of this school that he/she can help if you fail. They will end up embezzling your money. You have got to study hard and make your marks.
“On our own part, we will try our best to impart the best of teachings to you and at the end of your studies here, you will come out in flying colours,” Mr. Abudu added.
The Annex has also introduced Computer Science in its curriculum this session. Students with science background, who prior to this time had applied for courses like Accounting, Insurance, Banking & Finance, Business Studies etc, were offered change of course, if they desired to study Computer Science.
