Drug Traffickers Of The Week

Last week, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested several suspected drug traffickers. Below are their profiles.

1- Asianya Okey Francis, A doctorate degree holder, arrested with 100 wraps of cocaine, he was on his way to London.

2-Wanye Christopher, Ghanaian, arrested on Friday 18 July, 2008 at about 11 am during screening of passengers on Qatar Airways. He was on his way to Thailand. The accountancy graduate at Kumasi Polytechnic is based in Accra where he runs a boutique. Wanye confessed to have swallowed 49 wraps of cocaine weighing 967 grammes which he bought for 18,000 dollars.

3- Zadil Al-Hassan a truck driver in Spain also invested 10,000 Euros to purchase 105 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.933 kilogrammes. He tested positive for ingesting narcotics during the screening of passengers on KLM flight from Lagos to Amsterdam on July 14, 2008. Zadil a father of three children was to deliver the drugs to his contact in Vienna. He hails from Auchi, Edo State.

4- Steve Obehi Mato was arrested on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 for ingesting 80 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 1.547 kilogrammes. The 44 year old father of 5 children whose pregnant wife is about to deliver was to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam when he was detected to be in unlawful possession of illicit drugs. Mato has been living in Spain for the past 9 years where he works in construction sites as an iron bender. He attributed his involvement in the criminal act to unemployment. The Edo State graduate of Accountancy would have been paid the sum of 3,500 Euros by his sponsors. 5- Emenike Kelechi Calistus ingested 71 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 1.127 kilogrammes. His arrest took place at the centre screening hall of the airport on Wednesday July 16, 2008 on his way to Johannesburg through South Africa Airways flight. Calistus who is a technician from Abia State has been living in Cape Town, South Africa with his wife and son for over six years. He was promised 3,000 dollars to traffic the drugs. “I travelled out of frustration because I had no option. I have tried everything but it is not easy with me that was why I agreed to do the business for 3,000 dollars” he stated. 6- Abagana Chikelu Daniel a trader living at Ramalat Street off Brown Road, Aguda Surulere Lagos was nabbed on Thursday July 17, 2008 while attempting to smuggle 66 wraps of narcotics weighing 1.092 kg to Dubai on Southern China flight. Married and has two kids, the Anambra State businessman said that since his shop got burnt two years ago he has been passing through difficult times. “My shop got burnt and since then I have been idle. That was why I agreed to carry the drug for 2,000 dollars” Abagana stated.

7- Kalu Benjamin a trader from Abia State was caught on Thursday July 17, 2008 for ingesting 73 wraps of cocaine for the sum of 2,800 Euros. Kalu has three children studying in Nigeria while he lives in Kennu Lome, Togo with his wife. In his statement, he stated that he was in the criminal act to assist his family members. “I was desperate to have the money” he said. He also stated that rather than involve in robbery, he prefers to do drugs. Kalu was to take the drug to Milan in Italy.

8- Charles Aidoyen, 33 lives in Vienna Austria where he works in a factory. He ingested 87 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine. He was nabbed on July 20, 2008 at about 9 pm during screening of KLM passengers to Amsterdam. He is married and has two children and would have been paid N500,000. The school certificate holder from Agbor in Delta State said he was carried away by the offer of half a million naira.
