Residents of Durojaye Olusola, Keku, Odubiyi Wuraola, Soyomokun Cole and Molusi streets in Ikate/Itire Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, have appealed to the state governor, to save them from being swept away by flood.
The residents said that the area council has been insensitive to their plight as the drainages in the area have remained uncleared.
They also alleged that some of the roads in the area are in a sorry state as they have been abandoned and making life unbearable for motorists, while a lot of money is spent on repairing their vehicles.
A resident, Mrs. Osilaja, told TILB that any time it rains, it is impossible to differentiate the road from the drainage channel and often times, most of them fall into the gutter.
“The situation is always terrible whenever it rains because the streets are always flooded and we hardly differentiate the gutter from the road. This has resulted in some of us falling into the gutter.
“Also the uncleared drainage has made our road to be in almost impassable. We have cried to the council but it seems nothing is forthcoming from there.
“I therefore call on Governor Babatunde Fashola to come to our rescue because we may be swept off by flood if something drastic is not done to save the situation.”
Another resident who craved anonymity said: “We are tired of the situation. Any time it rains, we are always helpless as the whole area is covered by flood and if something drastic not is done to save the situation now, the whole place may soon be submerged.”
He therefore called on the authorities of the council to act fast on the situation before it is too late.
When TILB visited some of the streets mentioned, the roads were in bad state and require urgent rehabilitation.
