It promises to be a new dawn for the youthful and elderly people of Ward C in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State, as a an Action Congress (AC) councillorship aspirant, Mr. Hakeem Lawal, a.k.a. Ola Shehu, has pledged to put a special empowerment and welfare package in place to make life comfortable for them if elected into office.
According to the aspirant, who described the youths and the elderly as members of an important segment of the society, the empowerment scheme he would put in place is designed not only to alleviate poverty, but also to ensure that many people in his ward are self-sufficient.
“From my own special research, I have discovered that these two categories of people require special attention. We can’t afford to toy with our youths because they are the future leaders of tomorrow. Laying a good foundation for them is very important, while at the same time, the elderly ones are special citizens who have contributed a lot to the development of the society. They have paid their dues and we need to take good care of them in their old age,” he declared.
To demonstrate his seriousness towards achieving the set goals, Lawal, who had purchased several JAMB, GCE and SSCE forms for many candidates in his ward free of charge, said he has also started a free computer training scheme for the youths.
According to him, the reason for doing this is to ensure that people in his ward are not left out of the quest by millions of people all over the world, to acquire computer knowledge and education.
“This is the era of information technology. I don’t want my people to be left behind. Without the knowledge of computer, it is not possible to transact any business in any part of the world, and this is why I introduced the scheme for the benefit of all,” he told Inside Politics.
Pledging his support for the Lagos State street soccer championship, the aspirant commended the Lagos State government for embarking on the project in partnership with the telecommunications giant, MTN, while describing the project as one that will help discover new soccer talents.
Lawal said he would also organise zonal football competitions in various neighbourhoods in Ward C, such as Onilekere, NAA Quarters and Valley Estate, if elected into office, while also saying he would accord top priority to street cleaning and regular clearing of drainages, and provision of waste bins and street beautification.
