LG Boss Tasks Youths On Reading Habit

July 04, 2008 18:16, 80 views

As part of strategies to further encourage the reading culture among Nigerian youths, and introduce them to the local government free moral classes, Engineer Richard Akinpelu, on Wednesday promised to assist any student that attends the classes.

Engineer Akinpelu, Executive Secretary of Ifako Ijaiye local government, made the promise while responding to the appreciation message of the third batch of beneficiaries of the free moral classes. At a programme organised by the beneficiaries, Akinpelu reminded the large crowd of youths of the consequences of indulging in hooliganism, cultism and drug abuse, saying these practices are destructive and would not make their parents proud.

“It is good to aspire to attain a high level in life and it is also a natural thing for parents to wish their children well, but no parent will be happy seeing their children or ward in the midst of hooligans, drug addicts and cultists,” he told the gathering, which also included party leaders and parents.

Earlier in their appreciation speech, the beneficiaries, through Miss Akinbia Hilda, stated that all the beneficiaries believed that education is the bedrock and the greatest tool for development, and best weapon in fighting social vices including poverty, armed robbery, prostitution, corruption, terrorism, militancy and vandalism.

They described Akinpelu as a visionary leader for arming them with the basic tool for development. They lauded his youth development programmes in the local government, the free tutorial for over 3,500 youths and the purchase of over 750 GCE forms for indigent students.

The beneficiaries assured the council boss of their readiness to support and assist in his second term bid through massive campaign from house to house and street to street.
