Ace radio presenter, Opeyemi Fajemileyin, spoke with OLAIDE ADEKUNLE about himself and what he does on his typical day
Q: How do you start your day?
A: My day starts as early as 3 or 4 a.m. I wake up to say my prayers depending on what I have to do for the day, I meditate on my profession, life, country and appointments for the day.
Q: What do you do next?
A: I take my bath, dress up and set out for work.
Q: When do you normally set out?
A: My appointments determine that, sometimes as early as 6 a.m. and at times, I don’t go out till 10 a.m.
Q: What makes your day?
A: I am excited if I am able to fulfil my objectives for the day.
Q: Any favourite food?
A: My special and favourite delicacy is pounded yam. I can take it four times a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year without mixing it with any food because I am from Ekiti.
Q: And your drink?
A: I take beverages, morning, afternoon or evening, except once in a while that I take beer with my friends.
Q: How do you relax?
A: I relax at weekends as nothing keeps me out late on weekends. I make sure I am at home, especially on Sunday, after church service, I don’t like going out.
Q: And with your family?
A: It is only on weekends, but I take my children out during holidays to tourist centres. They have visited almost all the tourist centres in Nigeria.
Q: What is your hobby?
A: My hobby is reading. I read a lot of books, both philosophical and autobiography. In fact, I don’t feel happy if I have not gone through the dailies.
Q: Your favourite television programme?
A: I love listening to the news very much, both local and international. In fact, the only programme I watch on foreign stations is news.
Q: Your happiest day?
A: The day I will never forget in my life was the day my first recorded album was released and that was in June 1980. It is titled Omo Ile-Iwe, a chant.
Q: Any embarrassing moment?
A: My most embarrassing moment was the day I had a job for the former Commissioner for Information in Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Olayinka. I was the master of ceremony at a party for him and I wanted to do it free of charge but I got stranded in traffic jam, so they had finished before I got there. I felt so embarrassed and thought the world could come to an end.
Q: When do you retire home?
A: It depends, my appointments determine when I get home, although it is usually late, not everyday.
Q: How do you end your day?
A: By taking my shower, listening to the news and read the dailies I am unable to finish during the day.
Q: When do you go to bed?
A: I go to bed around 9 p.m. and sometimes 12 or 1 a.m., when I have books to read or any programme that interests me.
