Nemesis has caught up with two women reputed for pilfering hand bags, money and other goods belonging to traders at the popular Idumota market. They were caught and stripped by a mob at the weekend.

The suspects, who gave their names as Mrs. Onyebuchi Obillo, 40 and Mrs. Chizoba Nnorom, 34, were caught while trying to steal N20,000 from the bag of a trader, Mrs. Adebola Afolabi.
But for the intervention of policemen from the Adeniji-Adele Police Station, the suspects who had already been beaten blue black, would have been burnt to death.
One of the suspects Mrs. Obillo, who gave her address as 34, Igbede Street, Shibiri, Ajangbadi, disclosed that she has eight children to cater for. She added that she had been stealing in the market for long and blamed the devil for her act.
The other suspect, Mrs. Chizoba Nnorom, lives at 5 Alagbado Street, Yellow Corner, Okokomaiko. She has seven children.
She pleaded for forgiveness, saying poverty led her into the crime.
“I’m a petty trader and I have lost my husband. I am from Anambra State. I have eight children to cater for. It was the devil that led me to the crime. Please aunty, help me appeal to them to forgive me. I won’t steal again,” Onyebuchi Obillo told P.M.News while being beaten by the mob.
The second suspect described her act as a mistake and pleaded for forgiveness as well.
A popular trader at the market, Mrs. Josephine Abogunrin, rejoiced at the arrest of the thieves, saying they had been stealing in the market for a long time.
“We thank God for their arrest. They have been causing problems for a long time until they were caught today,” she stated.
When the women were searched, scissors, razor blade and other sharp objects were found in their bags.
The suspects are currently being detained at the Adeniji Adele Police Station, Lagos.
