Nigeria Still Steeped In Corruption — Akanbi

February 26, 2008 15:35, 16 views

By Rasheed Bakare

Former Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi (retd.), is worried about the growing incidence of corruption in the country despite government’s determination to fight the scourge.

Justice Akanbi made this observation at a conference of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, held at the Lagos State auditorium, Alausa.

Speaking on the theme: Corruption: The Bane of Societal Development, the former ICPC chairman said it is unfortunate that in Nigeria, a corrupt man is honoured and treated as a hero in the society, while the hard-working, honest and transparent individual, who manages to eke out a living from the sweat of his brow, is sometimes treated with disdain or seen as a failure.
